The problem is that AOL 6.0 sends messages in MIME format, and the list only accepts plain text messages.. Please be aware that if you upgrade to 6.0, you will need to fix this new default behavior to post to the list. Thusfar, the solution has been to revert to 5.0. :-) Please let me know privately if you know how to keep 6.0 from sending MIME mail. - -- Deb \\ indigo@mindspring.com \\ http://www.mindspring.com/~indigo ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2000 20:15:13 -0800 From: "Tawni T. I moved recently, and last night, in an attempt to meet other folk music enthusiasts in the area, I attended a song swap hosted by the seattle folklife society. It was a small gathering, and entirely composed of people who knew folk music before I was even born. There was a folk songbook they used too, something like Rise up and Sing... I think. While flipping through the songbook, I noticed the names of such artists as Odetta, Gordon Bok, Ralph McTell, Fred Small, and many many more.... artists that I have come to know by name alone, but without any introduction to their music. It was such a nice gathering.. kind of felt like camp (Puff the Magic Dragon was one of a handful of songs I knew that night)... or like a late night at Falcon Ridge. I look forward to attending more of these and maybe bring back a name or two of folk singers that someone here might recall. My only (extremely minor) disappointment was that no one knew the artists that I liked. Even folk icons like Nanci Griffith and John Prine were lost to them... it just baffled me. I didn't dare mention Catie or Ani... although I did perform a Dar song for them (she was new to them too!). I think it just goes to show that there is most certainly a generation gap (or two) in folk music. Which comes back to why I love the Catielist. I'm generalizing, but you all seem so hip with the latest artists, but also know so much about the older folk music. I bow to you!! Anyways, I thought I'd mention a new artist cd that I picked up last week. The name is Kasey Chambers and her cd is The Captain. Julie and Buddy Miller play on the record as well. Relocation is not cheap, but I felt a little splurgy last week and since I love Catie and Catie loves Lucinda and Lucinda loves Kasey, I bought the cd and have carried it around with me like a blankey for the past week. In the car, at work, at home. Maybe I should just burn a few copies. Have a great week everyone! LOVE his voice- maybe he has the most appealing men's singing voice I know of- he sings sea songs a lot- Maine, etc. Storyteller songs. He is a master at what he does.
