I've never posted to this list before but many of you probably know me from the Ferrick list. I had the pleasure of seeing Catie Curtis and Dar Williams last weekend and it was great. I peeked at Catie's set list before she came on, and much to my pleasent surprise, the first two songs she was singing were my two favorites-- Memphis and Magnolia St. I hadn't expected her to play either one. She was great of course. It was my first time seeing her. She played about 11 songs and even took requests from the audience. She played: Memphis, Magnolia St, a new song about adoption (don't remember the name), Soulfully, Sugar Cane Song (a new song co-written with Mary Gauthier) Dads Yard, Falling Silent in the Dark, Church Burning Song and at least 2 or 3 others I don't remember. Afterwards she signed all my CDs. Dar was great, too. I liked her live even better than I thought. She told stories behind almost everysong. She signed my CDs, too. After the show, when everyone else was taking down the Dar posters for her to sign, I went straight for Catie's lone poster and she signed it for us. I told her I would put it up next to my Melissa Ferrick posters. Overall, a great show. I wish Catie had played longer, but I really liked Dar, too. My hubby and I truly enjoyed her energy and wit. I had no idea she would have such a great personality. Her voice sounded true to her CD's that I have. I was out and out impressed. She gained some new fans in Lawrence. I hope that she will come back to Kansas. I stumbled onto her while just picking up a cd - I had never heard of her before and didn't even bother to listen to it before I purchased it. I have become a fan since that day and was so glad she came close enough for me to see her. Dar was great - such an awesome song writer. She was very real and down to earth!!
