I live in Tempe, AZ, far away from many of you who get to see awesome music all the time. There really isn't much of a folk scene out here, or at least I am not aware of it. Because I love music so much and it is really hard for me to see anyone, I've decided to try to make something happen. I go to Arizona State University and I realized that we are the third largest university in the U.S. but in my two and a half years here, I have found very few opportunities to see female musicians perform. So what I really want to do is put together a festival that would take place during March for Women's History Month. I want it to be a benefit for a local shelter, but right now everything is just ideas. I have no specifics as I want to see what the interest level would be like. I want to know if musicians would even be willing to participate in this venture, as it will be a first at my school. The reason I am telling all of you this is because I would really like to hear any suggestions that you may have and any help in helping me prepare for the event or market it would be awesome. Please, please, please give me any suggestions. I really want this thing to happen. I am sick of waiting around for someone else to bring the music I love to this area. I know a lot of people around here feel the same way. There is an audience here, now I just need to find the talent to make this an extremely positive and worthwhile event. Again, please send me any suggestions you have. Thank you.
