I'm out of touch for a week and the list gets this insurgence of good energy. Can't believe I didn't add my two cents ;-P Anyways, I converted yet another. I took an eight hour road trip with a friend and he survived a Catie Curtis marathon.. came out of it singing "am I a hundred miles ahead/or a hundred miles behind.." which I think means he really likes Catie. Cool. Anne asked about other Bay area shows when Catie was last here. Not sure if Masaki wrote anything about it, but I guess I will. Catie played a short but very solid and crowd pleasing set at the Kate Wolf Memorial Festival last month. Let me just say that I drove up from San Diego mainly to see her perform, and I wasn't disappointed at all.. She played music from all her albums (it's amazing just how many really good songs she has) and also played a few new ones that have already been mentioned.. Jane and the song dedicated to her ill friend. I really liked Jane.. Doesn't Jess Klein have a song called Jane? Speaking of Jess, her new cd Draw Them Near is coming out on August 22. Go to http://www.rykodisc.com. Hey, those of you in the know, does she have the song about the blue moon on that new album. I have her on a boot singing that song and it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Oh, sorry to get sidetracked.. I was talking about the Kate Wolf Festival. When Catie introduced Dad's Yard during her encore, she told the audience the story about how her dad had used the old high school gym flooring in remodeling his bathroom. It even has the free throw lines positioned at an interesting spot. Anyways, it just was special to me, because out of all the times I've heard her introduce that song, she's never told that particular story and about four years ago when I first started listening to Catie, my neighbor had told me that same story because he used to be a student of her dad's and he had gone to visit him in his new home. That didn't come out quite as elegantly as I would have liked, but considering it's late and we're talking bathrooms here, anyways, such a cool thing to finally hear Catie relate the same story. Great to share the day with fellow Catielisters Masaki and Dana too. Time.to.sleep.all. - -Tawni ------------------------------ End of dads-yard-digest V2 #48 ******************************
