But, its funny to see such a similar story. I saw Catie in April and have been getting into folk more and more. Since then, I've been buying CDs left and right.... Lucinda Williams (this woman defines cool), Kris Delmhorst (AWESOME CD!), Cry, Cry, Cry (appropriate title - dangerous to listen to during certain times of the month), Dar Williams (great lyrics, my favorite is "what do you hear in these words"), Billy Bragg (undescribable). I saw Cliff Eberhardt open for 4 Bitchin Babes at the Bottom Line. He was great, and very funny. Anne Heaton and Pamela Means at the Bitter End was a excellent show too. Speaking of the bottom line, I'll try and get to it. I think its amazing how moving and theraputic music can be once you find that connection. Its like healthy crack. I've been listening to so much top 40 crap, its as if I forgot what good music was. I have some vacation time in August, but I'm not sure what gig to hit. Newport folk festival... Catie in ptown... any other suggestions? Take care, Mary Ellen Hello all, I was happy to see the latest digest - the list had been very quiet! I'd been meaning to post - my first - since seeing Catie at Slim's in SF in June. A great show and a great kickoff to glbt pride weekend here. Catie was utterly charming and funny, and, I thought, played all the right songs for the occasion. I am curious about the other bay area shows - in Palo Alto and at the Kate Wolf festival - any reviews? Also, if anyone has the set list from Slim's, or in particular, knows the name of the Morphine song that Catie covered, that would be great. I don't know all the email list etiquette, but to introduce myself, I'm Anne in SF - discovered Catie on KPFA within the last year and that's been a joy (some would say an obsession), and it's kicked off an exploration of other music, buying more CDs, going to shows...I was happy to hear Patty Griffin also at Slim's, and last weekend, Mary Gauthier and Richard Shindell at Noe Valley Ministry. Anyway, this is a very friendly list and has already given me lots of good info. Thanks all. Best, Anne ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Jul 2000 10:05:55 PDT From: "susan michl" Subject: [dads-yard] Catie in Seattle I saw Catie last night at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle opening for Keb'Mo'. Her visits to Seattle are few and far between so it was really exciting to hear the few new songs she played. It was an awesome show! She did play the Morphine song although now I can't seem to remember if it is the first new song or the second new song she played. Here is the set list for the short but wonderful show: Don't Lay Down (? I think this is the morphine song... hopefully I got the name right) Memphis Run (New song I haven't heard before) World don't owe me 100 Miles Jane (? New song.. I'm just guessing on the name) What's the matter Magnolia Street finished the set with Dad's Yard A sweet and beautiful set. Thanks Catie for another wonderful show. Is anyone else looking forward to seeing her at the Michigan Women's Festival? - -Susan ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Jul 2000 13:09:37 EDT From: Bobebop@aol.com Subject: [dads-yard] Re: august 12th ... hi anne and catielisters ~ vacation time in august ... hmmmm, i would suggest going to the folk festival in the pines which is in northampton, ma on saturday, august 12th. the line-up includes: melissa ferrick, pamela means, kris delmhorst, lori mckenna, jess klein, patty larkin, john gorka, the nields and many more. i've got my tickets and we are ready to go! barb ~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Jul 2000 19:17:33 +0100 From: "Claudine Lapsky" Subject: Re: [dads-yard] Catie in Seattle > Here is the set list for the short but wonderful show: > Don't Lay Down (? The Morphine song that she did was called Patience. > Jane (? New song.. I'm just guessing on the name) Yup that's the title. Again, she played that in London and called the song Jane.
