She said that the other night she played with a band for the first time: Catie was her drummer. I would love to have heard that! Was anybody there? (I am confused whether Mary meant the GLAMA's or in Cambridge.) I see the price listed now for CoolEdit is $69. I do not know what the downloadable demo allows you to do, it may be all you need for editing. There is a shrinkwrap version of CoolEdit for around $400 but I have not tried it. My other editor choice is SoundForgeXP which is the light version of SoundForge: http://www.sonicfoundry.com SoundForgeXP is about the same price as CoolEdit. I my opinion the Sonic Foundry products are good, but there is no point to trying their demos, they are a frustrating waste of time. Both CoolEdit and SoundForgeXP have very steep learning curves. There are programs that will clean up a tape and break them into tracks "automatically" but I don't think you want them. If I could choose only one editor it would be CoolEdit, because of the customizable noise reduction features. SoundForgeXP does not have much in the way of noise reduction, although noise reduction plug-ins are available for the more expensive SoundForge product. Dartech (dartpro.com) also makes editors. I have their software also. They have good noise reduction for making a CD from a record. In addition to an editor you will need a program to put your tracks onto a CD. Whatever program comes with your CD writer may be sufficient, but the best (IMO) is CD Architect by Sonic Foundry. CD Architect is not cheap, however -- although it does include SoundForgeXP. Hope this helps, or at least gets a good discussion going!
