Two quick things: First of all, while we're talking about other artists, one of my absolutely favorite bands of all time, the Judybats, have been resurrected from the dead (yea!) and are performing in a neighborhood near you: The Khyber, Philadelphia, PA, Thursday, April 27 WKOC First Annual NATO Fest, Norfolk, VA, Friday, April 28 Fletchers, Baltimore, MD, Saturday, April 29 House of Blues, Chicago, IL, Saturday, May 13 More specific touring info (ticket prices, addresses, etc.) can be obtained at "http://www.judybats.com/shows". I'll be at the Baltimore show! The 'bats are sort of an alternative folk rock band. And for those who care, the lead singer, Jeff Heiskell is an openly gay artist, but, like Catie, he's most concerned with just writing/singing his songs. If interested in more details, see "Not a statement but a song" article at "http://www.judybats.com/article3.htm". Their awesome new CD can be purchased at "http://www.judybats.com/retail". (Sorry for such a long plug, but I really think most of you Catie listers would dig the 'bats.) Now on to some Catie content... As many of you know, way back in December, I created a "quick & dirty", "stealth" (explained below) Catie website (with Masaki's help), from which you can download a bunch of Catie boots in the MP3 format ("zipped up", actually, to make downloading easier.) And I apologize for not having responded to everyone's e-mail regarding the site, but I just didn't have the time for so many individual responses. The site is still at "http://dcs.umd.edu/~mark/catie", though, depending on traffic, it may have to be moved. The disclaimer (from the site) below explains some restrictions that I hope all will (continue to) adhere to. Please read it carefully before going to the site! Thanks! DISCLAIMER: A non-profit project by fans, for fans. Except for the Burn Your Own House Down preview, these are not official Catie Curtis releases or by her recording companies. They are intended for HOME USE ONLY, NOT for public or radio play. NOT FOR SALE. Please keep it that way. For now, this is a "stealth" site, meaning that I ask that nobody publish links to it, at least until I can make sure that download traffic won't cause any problems. Most of the zip files are huge (60+ Megabytes!), so you may only want to try to download them from a decent (10 Mbits/second or faster) connection. For now, please only attempt to download the actual zip files during "off" hours, again, at least until I can make sure that there won't be any problems. Anyway, for those that remember, I had promised to try to make these available to listers at cost, probably on tape, probably in January or February 2000. (Okay, so I'm a little behind.) Of course, I was hopeful that providing them in the MP3 format would drastically reduce the overall number of requests for tapes. Again, for those with a CD-RW drive, burning your own CDs would be a fairly-straightforward process, and even without a CD-RW drive, just about any multimedia PC, as well as plenty of other "players", will play these MP3s. Plus, MP3s sound so much better than any cassette tape will, and tapes wear out. So the point of all of this is to find out just how many of you don't have any kind of MP3 playing capability and would be interested in tapes. To cut down on list traffic, feel free to respond directly to me if interested. Depending on the number of responses, I may have to recruit "branches" as we've utilized in the past. (Volunteers may respond directly to me as well.) The "collections" would probably be available in phases, perhaps one at a time, to keep things manageable. I would also be more than happy to assist those having trouble downloading and listening to the MP3s, and/or burning their own CDs. (That would still be a lot easier than managing a huge tape tree.) So let me know, and (continued) happy listening! - -- :[]: Mark Steven Katsouros, Communications Automation Guy || University of Maryland, Office of Information Technology ( ) Bldg. 010, Room 1109A, College Park, MD 20742-4911 (__) (301) 405-4492, mark@dcs.umd.edu, http://dcs.umd.edu/~mark ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2000 08:25:38 -0400 From: Mark Katsouros Subject: Re: [dads-yard] Boston Show 4/11 I stupidly wrote: > > More specific touring info (ticket prices, addresses, etc.) can be > obtained at "http://www.judybats.com/shows". I love the Judybats! Unfortunately, the only date near me is in Baltimore on Apr 29, the weekend of the Millenium March on Washington . But I did buy the new CD, and if I like it, it'll probably end up in the Artist Spotlight of my music index (a position that "Crash Course..." vacated only a couple of weeks ago). - -- Deb \\ indigo@mindspring.com \\ http://www.mindspring.com/~indigo ------------------------------ Date: 11 Apr 2000 09:24:53 -0700 From: gundysmith@worldspy.net Subject: [dads-yard] web stations My favorite station is at www.wyep.org. The mix is fairly eclectic, but most of the folks I listen to I found there, including Catie. Listen to the afternoon show with Rosemary Welsch, I think it's 2 - 6 eastern time. She is the best.
