Is this a live album? On the shop you can read: "As Cunningham bowed a solo, the crowd continued to sing softly, clutching hands." Did anybody find the time to check this? I don't want to return the disc if I get a new one with the same problem. I doubt that there are a lot of print runs of this albums, so maybe they are all the same. > Where are you from? Judging by name I'd guess Germany .... Yes, you are right I am from Germany. How many members has this mailing list? It seams like it is a bit quiet here? Are there more fans from Germany on this list? It would be great to hear how other people became fans of Susan's music and what they like about it. Anyone? It's not live - that line refers to the performances of "A Winter Talisman" and Johnnie's performances in general. But "A Winter Talisman" is recorded in a very pure way - no over-polished stuff like you hear some people do. This record gives the feeling of a group of people making music together, in a small house somewhere. It's an intimate, winter-evening feel. > Did anybody find the time to check this? I had to listen very carefully, and at exactly those spots there were very tiny "tch" on my headphones. But I hadn't noticed them before to be honest with you - you've either got very good ears or I am a just a lazy listener! > It would be great to hear how other people became fans of > Susan's music and what they like about it. Anyone? First, my sister and I had seen Loreena McKennitt perform in April 1998 in Amsterdam, and Caroline Lavelle (Loreena's cello player) sang a song called "Bushes & Briars" which was coupled to "Searching for Lambs" by Loreena. I liked the Bushes song very much, but couldn't find a recording of it. Then somewhere in the summer in Ireland that same year I was in a record store (which was always a feast as there weren't that many stores as there are over here) and in one of the bins there was this "Bushes & Briars" album. Never heard of it, so I went to the till and asked the girl if I could have a listen. She looked annoyed, as she was listening to music herself I guess, and put up the record in the shop. I had expected we'd be handed out some headphones or something but all people in the shop were now also enjoying the record. The bored girl skipped through the songs, and I immediately liked it, bought it, and played it many times, and still enjoy it very much! "Bones" was the first album of hers I listened (and relistened!) to. Though I live in the States and always have (but of course have the requisite Irish grandmother in my family tree :) , I felt the power of this magical connection right away. Seeing and hearing Susan play live in and near Boston several times only solidified my amazement at what she can do with her voice and how it speaks to me in a visceral and, I believe, age-old way. That she seems to be a lovely person as well only adds to her appeal. You're right, this list is very quiet. I think yours was one of the first messages that I've gotten in the several years since I signed on, except for the notices of Johnny Cunningham's death a few years back. But I don't believe that's any indication of a lack of fans out there. Maybe we're just happy to let the music do the talking? :) Feel free to keep the conversation going ...
