That's always an immensely entertaining evening, since Johnny is an utterly insane Scotsman, and he spends most of the show trying to crack Susan up. Since this is a very easy thing to do, the result is one big block of hilarity. But when the music does manage to get going, it's brilliant. Johnny recently broke his wrist in two places, so he's not supposed to be playing the fiddle at all. He's cheating a bit and playing some anyway, but he did bring a guest fiddler with him, a shy young Asian woman named Dana Lin who is one heck of a fiddler. (Of course he introduced her as his daughter. ;) Aidan Brennan, as always, accompanied on guitar. It was pretty much the same show as last year: most of the songs from _A Winter Talisman_, plus a condensed version of _Peter And Wendy_ to round out the second set, and a let's-see-where-we-go-from-here medley for an encore, starting with "Blue Moon" and going through a variety of other such standards as they occurred to Susan, until it all ended with Johnny and the audience singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" (with Susan whispering the words to him as it went along). But even though we'd seen it all before, it was still great. Johnny is just so damned funny. This year he had a sheep puppet as a prop, and I'm sure you all can guess just where that led him. ("Why do Scotsmen wear the kilt? Because sheep can hear a zipper from a quarter mile away!" ;>) One interesting tidbit: _Peter and Wendy_ is going to be on Broadway starting next summer. I forgot to ask Susan if she'll be in the house band for that, but I'll try to find out more info. Even though Broadway ticket prices are downright extortionate, I'll have to see it at least once. It is such an incredible, moving show. And afterwards we got to see baby pictures! Roisin Jane McKeown was born on November 8. Alas she was home in NYC with her daddy, so we didn't get to meet her in person this time around. Everyone is healthy and very happy. Yay! Apparently Susan has a gig at Fez booked for December 27, with as many band members and guest musicians as she can gather together. Of course I'll be in Arizona then. ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Holly Figueroa, 1/26/03 ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Dec 2002 00:20:15 -0500 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: Re: Susan McKeown and Johnny Cunningham On Thu, Dec 12, 2002 at 11:59:58PM -0500, meredith wrote: > One interesting tidbit: _Peter and Wendy_ is going to be on Broadway > starting next summer. I've gotten some people together to see S & J at the National Geographic auditorium tomorrow night. But since it's such a large hall my wife and I are going do to Charlottesville to see them again Saturday at the Prism, where no seat in the house is more than 20 feet or so from the stage. Did Johnny say how he broke his wrist? ================================ Kent Murray KPMG LLP, Economic Consulting Services 2001 M St. NW, Washington, DC 20036 Phone: 202 533-4414 Pager: 800 404-9049 Cell: 703 304-6157 kentmurray@kpmg.com - -----Original Message----- From: Jeff Wasilko [mailto:jeffw@smoe.org] Sent: Friday, December 13, 2002 12:20 AM To: curiouser@smoe.org Cc: ecto@smoe.org Subject: Re: Susan McKeown and Johnny Cunningham On Thu, Dec 12, 2002 at 11:59:58PM -0500, meredith wrote: > One interesting tidbit: _Peter and Wendy_ is going to be on Broadway > starting next summer.
