Hello, First, many thanks to Mike and the Good Folks at Smoe for making this list a reality. I heard about the list's genesis the day Star Wars episode one was released. As it happened I was seeing the new Chanting Guitarist Jon Spurney performing that evening with Deni Bonet at Arlene's Grocery. They opened with, and reprised at the end of the show, with very cool rendition of John Williams theme from Star Wars. While I did not have the good fortune to be aware of it at the time, Susan told me she was in the audience as well. She missed the opening number, arriving late, but caught the closer and was impressed, as was I, with their imaginative arrangement. I'd love to hear Deni and Michelle Kinney perform together again. If memory serves they both participated, whipping horse-hair and abusing rosin behind Susan at the Sandy Denny tribute at St. Ann's back in November. Michelle is so active with projects outside of her association with Susan that I wish there were some source of information about what she's up to. Perhaps you all can fill that gap. She gets involved with a lot of endeavors in the avant-weird that I love so much, but usually end up hearing about after the fact. Alas, I too will not get a chance to see Susan's Fleadh performance this year. A family reunion in Joisey makes it impossible. All the squirming and weaseling in the world can't get me out of it. I'd never hear the end of it if I punked out. Her show last year was one of the bright spots of that two day Mud-Fest. I do hope to make it to Pawling though. One of the nice things about last year's Fleadh was getting a chance to meet Web-Mistress Carolyn Andre of the Windy City, who's tireless efforts on Susan's behalf have forced me to bookmark her site on my office browser, risking the wrath of the Management Screws who frown on too much surf time. The brief conversation I had with Susan, when see told me about having seen Deni's show, took place outside the Neil Simon theater before the closing Natalie Merchant Sunday show. Waiting till the last minute to get a ticket, being in the midst of a temporary cash crunch, I had to settle for a seat in the nose-bleed section. The show was terrific, I hadn't seen Natalie perform live previously. I was a bit disappointed that Susan didn't get to play a larger role, but their version of Katell Keineg's "Gulf of Araby" made the long-green ticket price a sound musical investment. The shows were recorded and I anxiously await the release of the DVD and or live album of highlights. Susan relayed some ominous news, that Lindsay accepted a Professorship at the University in Ghent. It does not bode well for frequent pond hops for gigs in the States. When some time back she told me that he had taken an apartment in Brussels Belgium I held out some hope, because he didn't give up his New York apartment. I was hoping Michelle would be working the show as well, but Susan tells me that she wasn't available since she and Chris were in the middle of moving too. I didn't have the presence of mind to inquire about if they would be leaving the New York area too. Susan was on her way to grab a bite to eat before the show started and was kind of pressed for time. I felt bad about tugging on her sleeve for as long as I did. Since Mike formed the list with Susan's blessing for dissemination of information about her career I'm assuming she doesn't mind my divulging the contents of our conversation. I hope it's not too big an assumption, as her confidence and friendship I hold dear. On a loosely related note, Merrie Amsterberg's doing a date at Fez tomorrow night 6/16/99. (The relation being, she opened for Susan there a while back) She is very much worth seeing if at all possible. She's one of the few people in the world, not counting Arto Lindsay that can get a Dan Electro (One of the Skronkiest Guitars ever produced) to sound good. Look forward to when traffic on the list increases and to hearing from you all with musings about and news of our muse. Well I better close. Making up for light traffic on the list and jamming up your drive all at the same time. I remain, as ever, John Henshon ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. I have played it consistantly since then, and everytime i do it sends chills over my body...I hope to beable to see her again, so I can at some point personally thank her again for making my trip so amazing...I know i thanked her many times that night, she seemed taken by the fact that i had come so far to see her, but i would go farther if the timing was right and I know it would be well worth it!...ok..enough of a ramble from me... Making reservations at the Crier is a skill I've never needed to develop. ;) I do plan to go to this show, so I suppose it would probably be a good idea to start thinking about doing so. So right now I guess Joe, John, and maybe woj and Meredith are planning on going also? Mike ------------------------------ End of curiouser V1 #6 **********************
