Um, Paula was asking for a transcript the jewel thing. I've just done this quickly, but I'm pretty sure it's totally accurate. For those who don't know the song "Pices of You", I recommend you check it out. It's a good song. "... And I imagine one day having a whole stadium of people with lighters going 'Faggot, faggot...', oh God stop 'em [laughs]. But if that girl from the Cranberries was there, you know that girl? Hold on. Hold on. She'd go 'Faggot-ut faguh-uh-uh-uh' [imitating Dolores' singing] do you hate him, cos he's pieces of you'. [singing] Oh God I'm gonna get beat up, by the girl from the Cranberries, shit, what rhymes with Cranberries? But that's OK cos I'm sure that her armpits have hairies. She looks so cute with her short dark blonde hair... I'm sure that she's a real blonde, somewhere under there... Cranberries-uh, Cranberries-uh-uh, do I hate her, cos she's pieces of me?" - -- Johannes Schmidt "Redemption comes to those who wait, Forgiveness is the key" -"Lonesome Sundown" (Tom Petty) schmidty@schmidtyonthe.net http://schmidtyonthe.net/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 02:20:45 EST From: LittleHoss@aol.com Subject: Re: %Cran: transcript of the jewel thingy. Out of curiosity, have Jewel and Dolores ever met? I'm just wondering if something transpired between them for Jewel to bust on Dolores so bad? Most celebrities know enough not to talk crap about other celebrities. Seems kind of strange. "When Jewel attacks" - as seen on TV. In this case, Dolores has a different singing style that is easy to make fun of. Just like many comedians and musicians have made fun of Right Said Fred ("I'm too sexy..."). Or country music. I just take it for granted that people tend to poke fun or belittle things that are outside the mainstream or not so "cool" anymore. For what it's worth, I was at a show in Washington, D.C. where the artist (Emm Gryner) made fun of Jewel ("wait till I get to the part about the eggs"), as well as several other 80's metal tunes. Most particularly, Eye of the Tiger. However, she also plays a lot of these 80s metal songs in her shows, and it has become one of her trademarks. Mind you, these songs are normally rendered via piano or acoustic guitar. If you haven't heard of Emm, you should check her out (http://www.emmgryner.com). She's from Toronto, though she lives in the New York City area these days. She got quite a bit of press (and a growing fan base) when her album "Girl Versions" was released in the same time period as Tori Amos's latest album. Personally, I hate Tori's latest, but love Emm's. Emm did covers of her favorite male bands, many of which were 80s big hair metal icons. Most notably, she has recorded a version of Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" in a version you just have to hear to believe. Check her out if you're looking for a great, fairly unknown artist. Speaking of which, what other artists have people been listening to that everyone should check out?
