Enjoy! > >-Brett > Brett (and others): I haven't used newsgroups much, but sort of figured out (after getting a new client) how to download the attachments that are split into smaller parts. However, I was only able to piece together 1 minute (non continuous) segments of "Do You know" and "Every Morning". The other bits and pieces didn't quite seem to make it over to my news server. Is there any chance of you posting the files somewhere? Like on the web or ftp? Or even email them somewhere? Thanks. Johannes. There are some truly great tracks, my favorites include "Never Grow Old", "This is the Day", and "Wake Up", and "Carry On". There are some that still sound BTH-ish (TITO, Every Morning) which is OK i guess, but not cream of the crop. There are some people that have commented that TITO sounds very out of place, and I tend to agree. Overall, I'm very very happy and October just got a whole lot sooner. I've restrained myself to downloading all but 2 tracks so I still have something to look forward to on the 23rd. - -Alex ----Original Message Follows---- From: Brett To: cranlist@smoe.org Subject: %Cran: Wake Up prerelease Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2001 15:33:50 -0400 Hi, Just wondering if anyone else has downloaded the new album. I just got it myself yesterday from one of the MP3 newsgroups. (Couldn't wait until October). It's pretty good so far. I've only listened to the entire thing once so far. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has a copy of it yet and what your comments on it are? -Brett - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2001 12:42:44 EDT From: LittleHoss@aol.com Subject: Re: %Cran: Re: %Cran: Wake Up prerelease In a message dated 8/30/01 7:32:04 AM, schmidty@schmidtyonthe.net writes: << Is there any chance of you posting the files somewhere? If you're using Internet Explorer, right click on the file link and then click "Save Target As" and save them individually to your hard drive. If you're using Netscape, just click the file link and then tell it to "Save it to Disk". If anyone wants it, download it either today (Thursday) or Friday. I'll be removing the files on Saturday. - -Brett ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2001 13:16:08 +1200 From: Angela Brett Subject: Re: %Cran: Wake Up prerelease >At 12:42 PM 8/30/2001 -0400, you wrote: > >Okay, if your news servers don't have complete files, and you want >to download the album, go to: > >http://home.gwi.net/~dslfan/cran Thank you so much! I'm downloading some of them now, and listening to Never Grow Old which just finished downloading. I love it! I can hardly wait to hear the rest of them. - -- Angela Brett angela@kagi.com http://acronyms.co.nz/ "We must believe in free will, we have no choice!" -- Isaac Bashevis Singer ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2001 22:19:44 EDT From: LittleHoss@aol.com Subject: %Cran: New Album, first impressions OK, I downloaded the mew Mp3's and have given each song a run through at least twice, some 3 times. The first song to hit my ears was Never Grow Old. My first impression was a sigh of relief. Its definitely a return to the original cranberries style...BUT.... Over the years there has definitely been a change in Dolores' lyrical style. Lyrically everything is just incredibly simplified. Too much so I sometimes think. I've been trying to put my finger on what the difference actually is. I think part of it might be that her earlier songs were full of imagery. For instance...."Sitting in an armchair with my head between my hands, if this is the way you wanted it, I didn't understand". That paints a powerful picture in the minds eye compared to...."Birds in the sky, they look so high, my special day". I am happy to hear a return to the softer side. Take a trip back to the debut album (No, NOT Uncertain but rather EEIDISWCW) Its that softer sound that caught the ear of the public. Don't get me wrong, its nice to know the Cranberries can rock when need be but their roots are really in the softer sounds. It really allows you to appreciate Dolores' delicate, angelic voice. I can't help but view both TTFD and BTH as experimental albums. They really seemed to be searching for a sound. Not really knowing where they were going. I think this album is at least a step in the right direction. Analyze has "Club Re-Mix" written all over it. - -Eric ------------------------------ End of cranlist-digest V4 #45 *****************************
