This morning, I decided to check out the site since it had been about a month that I hadn't checked it out and I try to visit most cransites every week or so. I found that the team had the brilliant idea of making an online radio dedicated to The Cranberries. How original. Especially since I had the idea and I've had a cran radio for 2 months now. Its not the first time that this has happened. If you remember well, in last October, I was supposed to launch a Fanzine. A few days later, ZombieGuide annonced that they would also be launching a fanzine. UInfortunetly, beacuse of time reasons, I couldn,t lauch the magazine but I plan on trying again in a few weeks beacause its going to be the summer time. And about those "exclusive news", I remember posting some newsf on my and then ZombieGuide would copy it to there site and they wouldn't give me credit. They didn't e-mail me to tell me that they were going to take some exclusive news from my site or anything. The same thing happened to Cranny World. The owner (the lovly Celina), had an exclusive pic of The Cranberries with the Charmed team and ZombieGuide stole it and they didn,t even give her credit. All I'm trying to say is that I'm am deeply disgusted by ZombieGuide's bitchy attitude. Acting as if they where the only cransite in the world and doing as if they could do what they want. At the begining, of creating my website, I promised myself that I would not mention the ZombieGuide website on my site as a kind of boycott against their fictious monopoly bye bye jean]francois - -- bye bye for now jean|francois ================================================================ Jean-Francois Goyette (Fluoberry) E-mail me at dbgoyet@videotron.ca or cranberries@limerick.co.uk ICQ # 71892881 Webmaster of the Waltzing Back Website: http://pages.infinit.net/fluo1 ...And of The CranExchange: http://pages.infinit.net/fluo1/cranex "When we wrote this song two years ago, it was about terrorism in Ireland. i dont think weve got a monopoly, i think its just you spouting off with your socialist views again, which you seem to do every few weeks. zombieguide isnt the only cranwebsite in the world. there are plenty of them, and plenty of good ones. every cransite out there has its own content that makes it good in its own way. the idea behind zombieguide is to be a collection of great webmasters that are devoted to their sections and bringing news, music, etc to the fans all over the world. i own the site, and ive programmed the basic parts of it, but many sections are run by thier own webmasters, and they add to the site with thier own weekly updates, etc. to make the site one giant kick ass site. since youre a socialist, i think what im about to say will probably piss you off, but its a part of what seperates zombieguide from the other sites...zombieguide has a budget to work with, and therefore can do more than what other sites can. the site itself is 80$ a month out of my pocket to host the domain name, and the immense amount of space weve got for content, i pay money regularly to promote the site, and we get a ton of traffic as a result. weve bought video capturing software to make vidcaps, weve got stereo equipment to make MP3s, weve got access to studio photographs, posters, mugs and otehr stuff that enables us to have a cranstore. and weve got money to have contests every now and then to give stuff away to the winners. do we make millions off the site? no. i usually consider myself lucky the few times ive broke even. but what the heck, we do it for free and its fun. when i created the site, i made it because i had always wanted a cransite that was awesome, and had some good content. so i created the kind of site that i always wanted when i would surf the web for cranberries. i originally hosted the site on tripod, (and some parts still are) because i use thier online editor. viewers seemed to like the fact that the site was different, kinda spooky looking and had cool stuff from my own collection that most people hadnt seen before. after i bought the domain name, which was originally supposed to be www.inyourhead.com, i paid to promote the heck out of it, and it paid off...wherever you see cranberries on the net, you usually find the word "zombieguide" not too far behind. after awhile, the sites trafffic demanded more and more content, and innovation, which i couldnt keep up with, so i enlisted help from other webmasters to tackle particular areas of the site. adam took concerts, alex took news, vincent took the european audeince, and elio took the spanish area. we wanted to be the biggest and the best, and i think weve got a good team and a good presence on the net. in fact, 3 different music companies offered to buy the site from me this year, i almost took 1 offer, but later changed my mind. so you can call it a monopoly, i call it payoff. our team worked hard and devoted itself to the idea of making an ultimate website and weve done it. weve paid for advertising, weve paid for hosting, weve paid for equipment, and now we're one of the top music fansites. when the companies that offered to buy the site from me, i asked why, and they said 'everywhere we look on the net for cranberries, the name zombieguide kept popping up' as for the radio idea, i think i did hear about it from your site awhile back, but its a free software program. so because your site has the program also, no one in the world is allowed to use it? and a fanzine idea, thats nothing new, there was one out there about 3-4 years ago that has since faded, and the L & C club exists as we speak. did all the people take your ideas as well? well, since i had this site 1st, does this mean that you stole my idea because you made a website too? no, they call it free enterpise where i live. it says you work hard at something, you put some $ into it, and you make it work. ive looked at your site before, and from what i remember, its a good site, but its never updated and its never promoted, you dont do anything with it, then you get mad at us for doing the things with our site that you want to do with yours, and that makes you upset. rather than get mad, get to work on your site, if you dont like zombieguide, then make a site better than it and kick our ass, its a free enterprise, you can do it and no one can stop you. its kinda like what you were talking about before, socialism and capitalism...you said no one person should be rich, rich people should share their money with everyone...well if i knew i wouldnt have to work very hard to have money, cause i could just get it from some rich guy, then why should i work? in a capitalist country, if you want to be successful, you work, and you alone reap the benefits. no hand outs to people that dont want to work, unless you feel like it. it just seems to me that the points you brought up arent very valid. we get submissions daily from people, sending us news, images and other stuff. stuff weve never seen before we use, other stuff we dont. people have compiled entire sections of the zombieguide site for us...they said 'we liked the site, and made this section to help you out', so we post it. on an average month, we get 5000-7000 hits a month, are they free? not really, cause we pay for advertising. youve got a nice looking site yourself, and youre a brilliant programmer, rather then get mad at us for having a successful site, why dont you worry about your own site and make it a success? use some of our content if you want, its there. it seems every few weeks you find a reason to be mad about something. you complain about the US, you hate the US, you hate americans, were all fat and rich. although the US would be your best friend if canada were ever invaded. just seems that this week were the target of your rage. i know youre a teenager so you probably have more idealistic and optimistic views that i do, being an old man of 26. if you want a successful site, do what francisco did with his "pretty cranberries" site. i know the site is down right now, but damn, that is an EXCELLENT website! hes got content, hes got weekly updates, hes got devotion. has he taken stuff from my site? yes. does it bother me? at times, but hes told me, if i want something from him like videos, take em. no one is out there getting rich off of our fansites. were doing it for the fun of it, and the love of it. dont get me wrong JF, i like you, but it seems like your freindly to everyone, but with alot of issues that come out every now and then. and dont think im mad or hate you, blah blah blah. lets just get over it and get on with our lives. since you obviously dont like the site, then dont look at it! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jun 2000 21:13:54 EDT From: CranTrader@aol.com Subject: Re: %Cran: Re: [Cranberries] Thank you for exclusive content ;-( where does it say zombieguide wants everyone to link? as far as new and old ideas, yes the commercial aspect of the internet is years old now, there are very few new ideas. 99% of all site out there are just new looks at old ideas, but if i didnt think, well there are already 100 cransites out there, so i wont make one. i made one, and i made it the biggest and i hope to be the best one day. you posted a message with your feelings, i responded with my feelings, so lets just stop before this gets out of control. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jun 2000 23:02:47 -0500 From: "Michael Clark" Subject: RE: %Cran: Thank you for exclusive content ;-( ok, dude, do you have proof, cause I have serious doubts about these stories...not to say you are making this up...the Charmed Pic more than likely readily available to any1 w a scanner...as for news stories...news is news...unless he quoted your website word for word, he quite possibly may have not been to your website...I should know I run a BtVS Fan-Fiction Site and it's a lot of work don't have much time for surfing...and the fanzine...fanzine are as common as dirt...unless he stole your name then you really can't complain...the cran radio thing...I've listened to your station, and although you have a lot of rare stuff I hadn't heard, there's a lot of repitition...you can't blame a guy for trying to improve on an idea...i haven't been to zombieguide in a coupla weeks but i have known the site to be very comprehensive and i have a great deal of respect for the guy. If you can provide proof, please do so, otherwise discuss it with the webmaster.
