Below your thoughts and some of mines...<Hey everyone,

<their popularity to go down as well? maybe that's one
of the reasons. i
<don't know. I admit, their music has changed too. But
if you think about
<it, it could all lead to that.
Not quite. Dolores relationship with the press comes
from the early begginnings of the band, when the
English press (wich in a major percentage tends to be
a ´yelow´ press, like ´the sun´ and others), treated
them as some stupid and naif land farmers, and the
press liked Suede very much and when they made the
tour in USA and people choose for Cranberries rather
than Suede, they finaly had to give some credit for
our beloved band. But they never liked the berries and
also the fact that they are from Ireland could be an
added factor (not crutial, but added), they make
complaints on Dolores accent, but what do they
expected she talked like, she´s from Limerick and not
from Liverpool!
Anyway, critics don´t have much impact on sales, but
media exposure does.
For example, every week there is demand for
cranberries videos on Mtv-LA-Sur (they´ve split MTV
Latinoamerika in south and north the past year and
being the majority of Cranberries fans in Mexico, it
made it harder to see them properly in Mtv-South), but
what kind of video do they air: Linger, Ode,
Ridiculous. I have seen on Mtv Promises and Animal
Instinct only a couple of times and haven´t seen yet
of JMI on MTV-LA
(Thanks god for MuchMusic Argentina, wich aired JMI
and Childrens Promise!)
I think, that´s not a fair attitude to the band and
they are in a way trying to ignore the new material
and putting the band in the Classics as if they were
finised.So, improper media exposure, does in fact,
damage big sales albums, but nevertheless is a way to
measure the quality of music.
MTV is in the teeny-pop (not for much longer) market
right now, and they always treated the Cranberries as
an ´alternative-rock´ band, and because they don´t
care much about that type of music now, they don´t
give them much exposure. On the other hand, it was in
a way, that thing about ´alternative-rock´ what gave
TCB the oportunity to be a really big band (talking
about album sales), in the past. So I think, here
aplys the ´Right Time, Right Band´ [ ;o) ], and I
think if they were formed today (and not ten years
ago), they wouldn´t have a chance to become so famous.
Either way, as long as they continue to hang around,
it will be fine for me. Also, their ´Loud and Clear´
tour, as far as I know, was a big success, and I think
for an artist it´s really important to play live and
an album is just a way for that porpouse. So I think,
they don´t care much if they haven´t sold that
enourmous amount of copies like in the past (U2 had it
less-selling albums also, before they became 10 times
more bigger). About music, you never know!
<The media usually likes the celebs who suck up to
them or seem like the
<nicest(or best-looking) people. They also usually put
all their attention
<to teeny-bopper sugar-coated fake "bands" like Spice
Girls or those boy
<bands or Ricky Martin (yeah the guy can dance and
he's hot but c'mon it's
<all about sex appeal) The sad fact is that many
people look at the <outside:
<looks, catchy tune (and get turned on in some cases)
and sometimes forget
<the one of the main elements of music are the lyrics
or the message/story
<the band is trying to get across. I'm sorry but I get
bored with a bunch <of
<hot guys singing about how much they supposedly love
someone over and over
<again. yeah I might watch them on muchmusic for teh
fun of it but i
<wouldn't really take them seriously.
And also like MarilynManson (who had their contacts in
the press, because of his previous life as a
journalist student). Well, I think, the press puts
their eye on what they consider to be the mood. Once
Heavy Metal, once alternative, Hip-Hip,Teen-Pop... But
the real power is in you, to be apart of what they say
and think for yourself. It´s really not important if
other people looks in the outside, if you like
Classical Music or whatsoever and are the only one,
who cares! There´s never been that power of choice in
music as today, just turn down the TV and look for
your music at radio, Internet, Stores, Mp3´s.
The fact that there´s that freedom of choice, is the
real thing about one album in particular not selling
million of copies. Not all the people likes the same
band,and there will be even more choices in the next
decade ,but this doesn´t aply to teeny-pop (I think
the reason why is obvious).
Tearing apart the teeny-bopers, I think the times of
really big bands are definetly coming to an end.
<In a way, I'm kinda happy the Cranberries aren't that
"overused" because
<it would ruin the music if that's happen. Imagine if
they'd be on every
<magazine cover and posters everywhere. That'd be
weird, huh? But if that
<ever happens, it wouldn't be so special anymore
unwrapping a single that
<you ordered and recieved after weeks of anticipating
its arrival. The
<concert you'd see wouldn't be so cherished because
everyone you'd know
<would've just seen it on TV. Your cd's wouldn't be so
unique because
<everyone would have it too. You know what I mean? I
think that's what <makes
<The Cranberries more unique. They're one of a kind
and it's serious music
<when you think about it. The songs have meaning and
provoke emotion in <many
<songs. So don't be sad that not everyone likes the
Cranberries. There's a
<positive side to that fact I guess. Think of it as
your best-kept secret. <;)
<Okay I think that's what I wanted to say. although
the cranberries aren't
<always playing on my stereo and they aren't my number
1 favorite band (I
<have a couple of fav's), they'll always have a
special place in my heart.
<I'll always remember seeing them in concert and how
amazing they were. The
<feeling of listening to my favorite albums for the
millionth time yet <never
<getting sick of it. It's one of the few bands where I
still listen to
<albums from the early-mid 1990's. anyway, I hope you

Well, if you listen your music in the radio, is more
likely that you would not have the need of turning on
your CD-Player, but for me, overexposing a song,
doesn´t ruin it, it´s just our minds that get
saturated. The real value of the music, is when you
listen to it 10 years later, you still feel that it is
a good song (no teeny-poper has passed such a test,
who cares about the New Kids on the Block, ja! JA!). I
feel that on TCB (and also for this reason they are my
favs) on the Smiths, GBH (not the kind of music people
like on this list) and some others. Timeless music,
music that will remain, music that will build other
musicians.
<p.s.- Okay Can I ask a favour? Whenever there's news
on the Cranberries
<website, please say what the news is. I, and I'm sure
many others, don't
<have all the time to surf the internet so if someone
would give a brief
<update of what the news is, we'd really appreciate
it. If it's a new album
<(let's hope the next one is better than all the
them), you don't have to
<give full details about the album but enough
information to satisfy us
<until we do get to see the website. That was/is the
usual conduct on this list.
<For the first time in a while, I listened to NNTA and
EEIDISWCW (we've
<gotta make that one shorter, eh? why not- "E..W?") to
tell you the truth,
<i've haven't listened to TTFD in ages (many, many
months) and I lent out
<BTH two weeks after i bought it when it came out and
still haven't gotten
<it back. sadly enough though I don't really have the

Yeah! Electric Blue eyes is my fav on TTFD! Realy from
the heart.
Get BTH back on your domains! I realy don´t expect
from TCB to reissue the two first albums, artists
always change in a way, they´re older now and some of
the feelings of the 2 first albums, can´t be revive.
Even don´t forget Dol is a mother (and cranberry
babies are soon coming for the rest of the band), so
time goes and experience changes and all this must be
reflected on an artist and his music. If this wouldn´t
be the case, it weren´t from the heart that the work
is done.
Anyway, if you like some of the feelings of Stephen
Street, you also have Blur and Smiths and Morrisey, to
feel that gap.

First, glad to see all the traffic on the list.  It's been quite awhile 
since this place has seen so much activity.

Second, I felt I would add my thoughts to the discussion that has been on 
the list over the past week or so.  I'm spending a lot of time at work 
right now (about 12 hours six days a week), so I just read it all.

I have to agree with quite a few of the things that have been said.  I 
still think that the first two Cranberries albums are among my favorites of 
all time.  When TTFD came out, I wasn't very fond of it, but repeated 
listening made me enjoy it.  I had a copy of BTH about a week before it was 
released, and I liked it ok, but nothing really captured me.

Where I found I once was interested in the lyrics and the sheer beauty of 
the songs, now I find myself pretty indifferent to the Cranberries.  It's 
not that I don't like them, but they just don't have the power over me they 
did before.  I remember listening to NNTA over and over, singing 
along.  With BTH, I barely noticed the CD was done.  After a few weeks, I 
even quit carrying the CD around with me.

Dolores's lyrics have changed, and I have to agree with Little that the old 
ones were better.  When Dolores wrote those songs, she still had some of 
her idealism and naivete.  As the Cranberries grew in popularity and fame, 
she lost those.  Where there was once a dreamer, now we have a harsh 
realist, whose flowing lyrics have changed to sharp criticism.  I even feel 
that the melody that used to pervade Cranberries songs has been driven to 
the back in the search for power chords and musical gimmicks.  Where is the 
power of a song like "Yesterday's Gone?"  Where is the emotion?  I suggest 
it's gone.

I still like the Cranberries, but not as much as I used to.  We all change, 
and I suppose Dolores and I have gone in different directions.  I hope that 
maybe one day that spark is rekindled.

Ummm... don't want to promise anything too soon, but I might be able to
help you...

Our new computer should be arriving any day now, and it'll have a Miro
DC30+ vidcap card, so I can do the captures... I also have software to
encode the MPEG1 (I can even encode them straight to VCD format, if
that's what you wanted).

To top it off, on the 2nd of Feb we're finally getting cable modem
installed, so I'll actually be able to realistically ftp them somewhere
(or I could burn them and send them to you).

All this is provided that everything works though... never trust
technology (doesn't take a tech head like me to figure that one out).

Anyhoo, I'll see what I can do.

Hi!

Since before they were even playing Promises on the radio here, I've been
asking about the single in every music shop I've come across. They seemed
to jump suddenly from 'never heard of it' to 'oh, that was ages ago, I
don't think we have them any more.'

Well, I still don't have a Promises single (though I'll look in Real
Groovy, a really big secondhand music store... that's where I've found many
of my cran singles so far) but today I found an Animal Instinct single! I'm
so happy... it's the first cran CD I've bought for ages. The only problem
is, my CD-ROM isn't working at the moment so I can't play it yet... it's a
good thing I have the Paparazzi on Mopeds mp3. :)

Sorry about the confusion, I used the crandood6@yahoo.com as a junk
mail/bbs/mailing list address, and my clp2 address for personal email.
I've re-subscribed my clp2@ualberta.ca address again for the next month or
so, to keep up mostly with anything related the this MPEG topic.

My website talks about me not liking the new berries CD's.  This was true
many monthes ago, but now I find that the BTH CD has grown on me over
time.  However, I still feel that the first 2 CD's were very special, and
are the reason I made the web page and contributed to the berries comunity
in the first place.

I'm still not going to update the web page, and I plan to take most of
what's there down soon, because I'm very busy and can't update it on a
regular basis, or any page for that matter.

Again, if anyone can provide the MPEG files, that would be so awsome!
