Maybe the fact that Dolores has such strong feelings [snip] ok, my thoughts are that they simply aren't writing stuff of the same quality as they did 5 years ago... but this is simply my opinion (don't flame me or anything, don't want some sorta argument like U2 fans have when someone says "the best album definately is ...")... recently I have changed my music taste heaps (that is, to include non-cranberries!!!), and one of my favs now is stretch princess, but I still love the berries... I also think that they aren't doing as well simply cause they aren't being pushed by whichever record company "owns" them atm... (can someone please let me know what exactly is happening there???) > The media usually likes the celebs who suck up to them or seem like the > nicest(or best-looking) people. They also usually put all their attention > to teeny-bopper sugar-coated fake "bands" like Spice Girls or those boy [snip] yere, definately!!! I totally agree... it's sad in that those sorta acts dissapear rather completely and become has-beens who weren't known for great music, but for their looks, or something like that (btw, is it true that that spears girl got breast implants??? ;) > In a way, I'm kinda happy the Cranberries aren't that "overused" because > it would ruin the music if that's happen. So don't be sad that not everyone likes the Cranberries. There's a > positive side to that fact I guess. Think of it as your best-kept secret. ;) ya... definately... altho it would be nice if I wasn't payed out so much by friends for liking the berries... I mean, I really shouldn't have let them know things like the fact I own around 70 berries cds... it just confirms some of their thoughts about my sanity... ;) but it is nice knowing that there are other strange ppl out there who have a love of something so great as the berries... :) as for the concert, currently looks like they couldn't be bothered to come down to Oz, so I can't comment... I know what you mean about the singles tho... I currently have about 4 items on order, and really can't wait for them to come!!! ok, enough of my ramblings, cya... nic... <<------ "If you dare to open wide your eyes of faith, you'll be surprised by what you see, by what it costs and how it's worth it." -- Michael Frost "Eyes Wide Open" ------>> ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jan 2000 10:44:42 +0100 From: Seemann-Hofheim@t-online.de (seemann) Subject: Re: %Cran: Why The Cranberries aren't too well-liked by the Media (my theory anyways) Hi guys, Maybe it is a little late, but I received dal`s mail only today, so anyways, I`m going to say something about it. First of all I was so surprised that someone writes such a long mail which is really a cool thing as the Cranlist should be a chance to discuss different topics about the Berries... > > Okay, you all know how Dolores has been very honest and straightforward on > how she feels about most media and the papparazzi. do you think this might > have been connected with that the band hasn't been doing as well as it had > been like 5 years ago? Maybe the fact that Dolores has such strong feelings > about media has affected some of the critics' opinions of them and possibly > caused them to resent her and then the band? could it have possibly caused > them to write bad reviews or caused them to criticize her back by > challenging or doubting her voice or writing abilities? Well sorry, but that wouldn`t be surprising...I mean I love the band and I love the way Dolores clings to her opinions and ideas no matter what people say...but she defenetely needs the press and above all her fans to be successful. I totally can understand her disappointment about the way the press treats a band who doesn`t follow their expectations but we shouldn`t forget that these paparazzies just do their job as well. They don`t want to ruin Dolores live, what should be the use of that...they just do their task. And when Dolores always doubts the quality and the work of the press, it is no surprise at all that the press starts to doubt dolore`s qualities and abilities. Could it have possibly caused > their popularity to go down as well? maybe that's one of the reasons. i > don't know. I admit, their music has changed too. But if you think about > it, it could all lead to that. I don`t know...Dolores way of live has also changed...She became a mother and older...The one-time power and agression when she sang ZOMBIE for example has fainted...Her songs became more quiet and soft, like the songs of a mother. People who didn`t know the Cranberries before, who didn`t follow their personal developpment and the simultaneous developpment of their songs won`t be affected by their new album...Songs like Zombie or Linger are to win the whole nation over but songs like Shattered or Dying In The Sun are to be relished by all the fans who followed the Crannies even through their 4 years break, they won`t win lots of NEW people over. Only people who felt with the Berries during all their ups and downs will understand and derive pleasure from them. The sad fact is that many people look at the outside: > looks, catchy tune (and get turned on in some cases) and sometimes forget > the one of the main elements of music are the lyrics or the message/story > the band is trying to get across. I'm sorry but I get bored with a bunch of > hot guys singing about how much they supposedly love someone over and over > again. yeah I might watch them on muchmusic for teh fun of it but i > wouldn't really take them seriously. That is absolutely right. > > In a way, I'm kinda happy the Cranberries aren't that "overused" because > it would ruin the music if that's happen. Imagine if they'd be on every > magazine cover and posters everywhere. That'd be weird, huh? I finally wouldn`t have to create the posters by my own!!! although the cranberries aren't > always playing on my stereo and they aren't my number 1 favorite band (I > have a couple of fav's), they'll always have a special place in my heart. > I'll always remember seeing them in concert and how amazing they were. The > feeling of listening to my favorite albums for the millionth time yet never > getting sick of it. It's one of the few bands where I still listen to > albums from the early-mid 1990's. That is absolutely right again...It sometimes hurts that nearly nobody actually knows the Cranberries but it gives everything a certain glimmer of particularity...I love creating my posters and even t-shirts by my own. It is a great feeling to work on something concerning the Berries and it makes me much more bound up with them.
