I went shopping 2 days ago in Ottawa with my friend. She bought some very cool 20 hole black Doc Martens and I bought a Doc Marten T-Shirt, A Beatles Fanzine, The People mag (the one they talk about TCB in it) and the Animal Instincts UK import 1 (I already had #2 and the Canadian one, now I'm getting the limited edition one). I also saw the JMI single for sale at HMV so if your interested in getting it, just e-mail me. Yesterday I also went shopping at my local mall and I checked at HMV. I bought the new Tori Amos EP (Hey Jupiter) and then I went to check in the Cranberries section and I got the 2 track JMI single!!!! Its in this very cool cardboard sleeve and the CD looks like the inside insert of the normal JMI single. That's all for now! bye bye bye bye jean¦françois ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2000 13:30:30 -0500 From: "Uva, Richard L" Subject: %Cran: live recording Does anybody know how to save the live in-studio RA file of the cranberries at www.liveconcerts.com? It runs in realplayer and I cannot figure out a way to save it to disk. It seems to run in RAM and not cached on the disk. There is no save-as command in realplayer. For a quick (actual) link to the file click the following: pnm://lc.rbn.com/livecon/kcrw/demand/mb/mb930715The_Cranberries.ra Rich ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 05 Jan 2000 21:33:33 -0500 From: Dal Subject: %Cran: Why The Cranberries aren't too well-liked by the Media (my theory anyways) Hey everyone, It's been a while since I've wriiten but I'm been busy so I guess I kinda "lurk" every week or two to catch up. anyway, I just had a thought and wanted to know what you guys that of it. Okay, you all know how Dolores has been very honest and straightforward on how she feels about most media and the papparazzi. do you think this might have been connected with that the band hasn't been doing as well as it had been like 5 years ago? Maybe the fact that Dolores has such strong feelings about media has affected some of the critics' opinions of them and possibly caused them to resent her and then the band? could it have possibly caused them to write bad reviews or caused them to criticize her back by challenging or doubting her voice or writing abilities? could that have resulted in poor record sales- okay not poor but not- as-great-as-before-or-could-be record sales. Could it have possibly caused their popularity to go down as well? maybe that's one of the reasons. i don't know. I admit, their music has changed too. But if you think about it, it could all lead to that. The media usually likes the celebs who suck up to them or seem like the nicest(or best-looking) people. They also usually put all their attention to teeny-bopper sugar-coated fake "bands" like Spice Girls or those boy bands or Ricky Martin (yeah the guy can dance and he's hot but c'mon it's all about sex appeal) The sad fact is that many people look at the outside: looks, catchy tune (and get turned on in some cases) and sometimes forget the one of the main elements of music are the lyrics or the message/story the band is trying to get across. I'm sorry but I get bored with a bunch of hot guys singing about how much they supposedly love someone over and over again. yeah I might watch them on muchmusic for teh fun of it but i wouldn't really take them seriously. In a way, I'm kinda happy the Cranberries aren't that "overused" because it would ruin the music if that's happen. Imagine if they'd be on every magazine cover and posters everywhere. That'd be weird, huh? But if that ever happens, it wouldn't be so special anymore unwrapping a single that you ordered and recieved after weeks of anticipating its arrival. The concert you'd see wouldn't be so cherished because everyone you'd know would've just seen it on TV. Your cd's wouldn't be so unique because everyone would have it too. You know what I mean? I think that's what makes The Cranberries more unique. They're one of a kind and it's serious music when you think about it. The songs have meaning and provoke emotion in many songs. So don't be sad that not everyone likes the Cranberries. There's a positive side to that fact I guess. Think of it as your best-kept secret. ;) Okay I think that's what I wanted to say. although the cranberries aren't always playing on my stereo and they aren't my number 1 favorite band (I have a couple of fav's), they'll always have a special place in my heart. I'll always remember seeing them in concert and how amazing they were. The feeling of listening to my favorite albums for the millionth time yet never getting sick of it. It's one of the few bands where I still listen to albums from the early-mid 1990's. anyway, I hope you enjoyed my email and if you have any comments, please feel free to write. Dal p.s.- Okay Can I ask a favour? Whenever there's news on the Cranberries website, please say what the news is. I, and I'm sure many others, don't have all the time to surf the internet so if someone would give a brief update of what the news is, we'd really appreciate it. If it's a new album (let's hope the next one is better than all the them), you don't have to give full details about the album but enough information to satisfy us until we do get to see the website. For the first time in a while, I listened to NNTA and EEIDISWCW (we've gotta make that one shorter, eh? why not- "E..W?") to tell you the truth, i've haven't listened to TTFD in ages (many, many months) and I lent out BTH two weeks after i bought it when it came out and still haven't gotten it back. sadly enough though I don't really have the urge to listen to teh last two except for a few songs. For some reaon, i had "Electric Blue Eyes" in my head the other day. Weird. Anyway, gotta let ya go now- I'm sure you have other things to do as I do. Oh yeah- Happy New Years, Christmas, Hannukah, Eid, and everything else to anyone who's celebrating whatever! wishing you love, peace and joy for the millenium. Later, Dahlia (a.k.a. I would guess most record sales are generated by radio play and videos with reviews having little effect on sales in comparrison. As for the Cranberries earlier work VS. more recent recordings, it seems clear enough that Dolores recent lyrics have become almost juvenile when compared to the first two albums. I was listening to IJSJL the other day and cringing at the lyrical structure which is as follows.... With a Smith and Wesson 38 John Lennon's life was no longer a debate He should have stayed home He should have never cared The man who took his life declared, He said, "I just shot John Lennon." " I just shot John Lennon." If I were to rewrite this verse it would go something as follows... With a Smith and Wesson 38 He took the life of a Rock and Roll great He'd be with us now Had he never cared but the music died as his attacker declared, "I just shot John Lennon, I just shot John Lennon" I know a great deal or critics have had a field day with the line "John Lennon's life was no longer a debate " Out of curiosity, if you COULD rewrite lyrics to any of the songs, what would you change? - -Little ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2000 16:06:51 EST From: LittleHoss@aol.com Subject: Re: RE: %Cran: Cranberries record sales (and weak lyrics) In a message dated 1/7/00 7:54:45 PM, DiCicco@AE.com writes: << i'll bet most of the lyrics just came out, and she didn't change them because your first impulse is usually right, know what i'm trying to say? >> Mmmmm, I understand this but artists rework things all the time. Song writers will very often change lyrics or add more verses to their existing songs. Artists will go back into a painting. People grow and change so re-visiting old work is not particularly a bad thing. - -Little ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2000 17:23:08 EST From: Sorcerer05@aol.com Subject: Re: %Cran: live recording What's the name of the second song they perform in the studio after Linger?
