I thought it was great. The sound and video quality were really good too. Dolores's mic was too low at times, but other than that, the sound was great. The video came down in a nice big window. I'd guess it was about 300 pixels across. It was pretty clear and I think I got about 24 frames per second, so it wasn't choppy at all either. Of course, I was able to watch the 300k clip and I doubt it was anywhere near as good if you were watching the 56k clip. I was able to record the audio from the concert, or most of it, anyway. I found that my sound card lets me select "what u hear" as the input source, so I did that and it worked fine. At the end of the main set, I stopped recording and saved the file. I found out that even though Cool Edit never gave me any indication that it had stopped recording, that it did in fact stop after 36 minutes. I have no idea why this happened and there was nothing I could do about it after the fact. So, I recorded everything from Promises to just a few seconds before the end of Go Your Own Way. I was pissed since this meant I didn't record my favorite song, When You're Gone. I also got all four songs of the encore without a problem. I'll put MP3's of all these songs up on my FTP site soon. It might take a while since I'm pretty busy with school right now. If anyone else recorded the concert and can fill in the big hole that Cool Edit left me, please let me know. Between songs, when they'd show a freeze frame of Dolores, the picture quality was perfect. I tried to save these via screen captures (from LView Pro), but it wouldn't work. The capture worked normally except that in the Media Player window where the video was, it was all black. I tried on several occasions and it came up us nothing each time. All I can think of is that this is some sort of copy protection built into media player, but I have no idea how it possibly works. Anyway, did the crowd suck or were they loud but somehow it didn't come through to us? I couldn't hear them between songs and I could barely (if at all) hear them when Dolores had the crowd sing. Plus, Dolores actually had to tell everyone to stand up. So, to everyone that was there, shame on you. :) Did Dolores throw something to the crowd during one of the songs? I thought I saw something like that, but I was messing with the screen captures at the time, so I wasn't really focused on that window. I don't recall what song it was, but I know she was playing her guitar. Was it just me or was it depressing when Ave Maria came on since it meant that the tour was over? They're still going to play Europe, but... That's all I can think of right now. Anyone else have any comments? The Show: First of all, let's make it clear that I'm gonna write about it,as it was seen on the webcast (you will have to ask someone who was on San Francisco for more precise details). They started the webcast with some Michel Jackson classic and then some techno music with images from the outside of the theatre. Then it was time for the Collective Soul show When they were finished it was time for some comercials and then the band 'Pound' played a couple of themes. (I think they swap the order of the bands at the webcast, because it was obvious that Pound played before C.Soul). Some interval and finaly they started with the cranberries, they started with PROMISES (they did'nt broadcast that song from the beginning :_( Well i'll transcribe you the set-list from this show: - -Promises - -Loud and Clear - -Animal Instinct - -Ode to my Family -->dol playing on her KORG M1 keyboard - -Sunday --> a 'speedy' version, dol on an acoustic Taylor guit. - -Linger - -Wanted --> yet another 'speedy' and 'hardcore' version - -Salvation - -Desperate Andy - -Go Your Own Way - -Pretty - -When you're Gone --> Just AMAZING!!! - -I Can't be with you - -Waltzing Back - -Zombie - -Ridiculous Thoughts (INTERVAL) - -Dying in the Sun --> DOL on PIANO - -You and me - -Just my Imagination - -Free to Decide - -Dreams (END of Concert) - -They used a recorded version from Ave Maria (DOLORES VOCAL) to end the broadcast and then some comercials. Dolores changed her dress 3 times during the concert; she started with a black Jacket and a kinda blue dress and she ended on a white dress (sorry i'm not good describing fashion ;) She was with black short hair and her main instrument was her classic 'red ES-335' (I guess) Gibson Guitar.. Well I hope this short description of the show is for someone usefull. All I have to say is the the windows media player quality is rather acceptable, but i have had some SYNC problems during the webcast so I couldn't tape it with an acceptable quality, besides I missed the last songs (I used a 45x2 min. tape, but it wasn't enough). So if someone with a T1 or cablemodem connection was luckily enough to tape it, tell us please, because the show was amazing. There were only a small sliver of people that were sitting when Dolores told us to stand. My wife and I were only a couple of rows from the stage and our ears are still ringing. :) Collective Soul was even louder the Cranberries, I think. Hey Paul, too bad you missed "When You're Gone," because it was one of the better sounding songs of the night. I liked this show better than the one last May at the Warfield (SF). If anyone wants any particulars, just holler. Bryan ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Sep 1999 21:40:06 +1000 From: Schmidty Subject: %Cran: that webcast... I have a 56K modem, and I dial into another 56K, but for some reason it only ever seems to connect at a max of 38K (or so Linux would have me believe). Anyhoo, i thought it'd be safer to connect to the 28K feed... The quality was bearable... I could make out the words and everything, and the video was amazingly good, but then it was MPEG4, so I wouldn't really have expected less, considering it was such a small window. I thought awhile about how to record it, cos every tape recorder in this house is absolutely shit... so hooked up the laptop, via a guitar lead and adaptors, to my other computer, and recorded it that way... I'm listening to the recorded version right now, it's abotu as good as the original, plus a little bit of hiss... Unfortunately, even with the 28K feed, my connection had to rebuffer several times. Something weird I noted was that after buffering it picked up from where it had left off, and then half a minute later it just skipped 15 seconds or something... really annoying! Great gig though... can't wait till they come down here (they said a few months ago around christmas time, cos they want to be here in our summer). Oh yeah, the point of this mail: If people really want it, I can encode the songs I've got to MP3 (i've got everything, just with a few little buffering holes, and at the 28K quality) and put it on Paul's server. If someone else has a better version, let us know, and I won't go to all the trouble... let me know.
