Hello! Well, I figure I should ask if anyone knows of any bootlegs floating around from the Toronto show on August 27? I really wish I would have brought a recording device, because it wouldn't have been a problem getting it in. :( Anyway, I'm interested in it if someone knows of a copy... The concert was great overall, and my ears have finally stopped ringing from it. :) Collective Soul was a lot better than Cracker in 1996, and extremely loud. The God be With You opening song was really good, mainly because as I looked around, a lot of people didn't seem to have a clue as to what it was! It was excellent overall though, and I don't even care that Ticketmaster gouged me for the ticket price! But I would love to find a boot of it... BTW, merchandise prices were insane, there was no way I was going to spend $35 for a t-shirt. I ended up buying a $12 poster, but that was it for me. I think I see how bands make their money, hehe. - -Brett ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Aug 1999 20:45:02 -0400 From: Goyette Subject: %Cran: Montreal show review Hi their peeps! As you know, I want to the Montreal show on August 28th. It was the best day of my life!!! The show rocked! I left for Montreal in the morning. At 6:30 PM, me and my mother (I'm only 15, but it still rocked even if I was with my mother caus she likes the Cranberries) were on our way for the concert. We arrived at the Centre Molson by 7:10 PM. I was supposed to go to the fan gathering that Danny was organizing but I never did find him among the 13 500 fans that were present that night. I looked around for about 15 minutes for him and the other peeps but I didn,t see any of them. We then went inside. I bought a few items at the souvenir shop: the tour program (turns out all those black envellope things they put the programms in were all in very shity condition when they were shipped to the concert), the Bury the Hatchet pin and the new Animal Instincts blue t-shirt. The items were a little more expensive then the price that were stated at Zombie guide (tour programe was 20$, pin was 12$ and the t-shirt was 35$). When then got to our sheets wich were wayyyyyyyyyyyyy up (but still, we had a pretty good view). I was so excited by the idea of finally seeing the band live. I've been waiting 3 years for this moment. We decided to have something to drink before the concert caus we had 30 minutes before Collective Soul started. I got many questions about the NNTA shirt I was wearing (such as if it was rare, were did I get it). I then realized that I should of sell it, by more cran stuff at the memorobilia shop and then buy a new shirt caus a store near were I live is selling one. When we got back to our seets, I reviewed the setlist and I read a little bit of the tour book. Then Collective soul stated. They really did rocked the place but it was nothing compared to The Cranberries. I was supprised at how many songs they played that I actually heard before. After they were finished, the roadies started to arange the stage for The Cranberries. It took about 30 minutes before The Cranberries but it was well worth the wait. The cowd did the wave. They kicked off the show with God Be With You. Dolores was wearing a blue dress with some 16 holes Doc Marten (I think) boots. I was supprised to hear most of the audience sing the song. I thought that I would be one of the only ones to know the lyrics for every song. After, they played Promises. It was simply amazing hearing everybody sing the same song. I don,t think that their wasn't anyone in the Centre Molson who didn't sing along to it. Then came Animal Instincts to wich pretty much everyone sang along. Ode to my Familly was next. The people attending instently reconized the song. It was one of the crowd's favorites. Between Ode and Sunday, things were a little quiet so I screamed "SUNDAY!!!". Unfortunetly, I don,t think I screamed loud enough for the band to hear. Sunday is one of my favorite cran-songs so I was very happy to hear it. Then came the classic Linger (in wich Dolores invited us to sing along) and then Wanted. I was supprised to hear how much Wanted rocks live. I never heard it live before (I don,t have a lot of bootlegs beaucuse I rather like official material). Usually, Wanted is one of my least favorite cran-songs. After came Just my Imagination. Then Dolores changed into leather pants and a sleaveless leather shirt and performed the rocking Salvation. The crowd really went wild on that one. Go your Own way was next and the fans even knew the lyrics to that one. The came more calm songs: Pretty (really cool), You and me and the great suprise... When You're Gone. An other of my favorites was next: Daffodills Lament. Their were lights that were like Daffidils iluminating the stage. It was one of the most emotional moments of the concert. The classic I can,t be with you was next performed. After came Waltzing Back (It made me think of my website for a moment). Dolores' dancing was great on that song! The immensly popular Zombie was next. Everybody at the concert knew the lyrics for that one and the song needed no introduction. It was one of my favorite moments of the concert. Ridiculous Thoughts ended the show. It was really great. Its one of my favorite songs and Dolores' dancing a simply brilliant on it. But the fans wanted more... it simply wasn't enough. After 7 minutes of clapping, whohing and screaming, Mike Noel and fergal came out to play Dying in the sun. Fergal was playing the keeboard while Dolores was singing backstage. She came out to sing Shattered and to reveal a red skrt with a gold-type-of-thing sleeveless shirt. Then came Delilah (also one of my favorites). The last song of the set was next... DREAMS!!!!! It was brilliantly performed and it was amazing. We then left. Outside, they were selling t-sjirts (unofficial) for 15$ but if you were suckup enough, the guy would sell it at 10$ (like he did to me). The colors of the shirt are very shitty but I simply couldn,r resist. We then went to go out and wait for the band to come out. My mother didn,t sleep very well the noght before the concert and she was getting a headach. I saw a couple of people waiting beside a garage door and I asked a guy if he was waiting for The Cranberries. The guy said yes. He said also said "I don,t want to disapoint you but in '96, they only came out after an hour and a half". We waited for about 20 minuted and then my mother asks me if it would be OK if we left. She said she was getting a headache and fealling really bad so I decided that it would probebly be best if we left caus she doesn't normally complain for anything and she knew how much this was important to me. I didn't get to meet the band, but I did get to have the best noght of my life. And for that, I am very thankfull for The Cranberries. I want to whish all the concert goes a lot of fun and I hope that you'll get to meet the band. If you do, tell them I said hi. I'm currently looking for poeple that would be interested in helping out at the Waltzing Back website by beeing responsible of one particular section (such as The Band, The Music, etc.) or that would want to help me get news for the Cran Events and News section. You don,t have to devellop a desing beacuse I already have a template to make it easy to make websites. You must have a bit of HTML knowledge if you want to be responsible of a section but you don,t need any to be a cran news-resercher. Anything tou create/contruibute will be credited to you. Bellow is a list of the positions available and a little sumery of what I would like. - -Webmaster of The Band Section You would write a biography, a fun facts section and an ID sheet. You would also be responsible of a picture section. - -Webmaster of The Music section For this section, I would need lyrics, guitare tabs and a fun facts page. What I would like is possibly a sub-section that would let cran-fans playing an instrument or singing place their wavs or MP3s for others to hear. - -Webmaster of the downloads section You would be responsible of finding or creating wavs, midis, mp3s, videos, backgrounds, screen savers or whatever for this section. - -News resercher You would be responsible of finding Cranberries news for the Cran events and news section. Here is a full recap. This night started out much better than when I saw them last week. My friend Jeff and I got there about an hour and fifteen minutes early. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, a guy came up to our car and asked us if we had any rolling paper. Unfortunately for him, we were fresh out. We saw a sign right in front of our car that said that if you're car wasn't gone by midnight, they'd tow it. Jeff drove, so he told me that we'd have to leave before then because he didn't want to lose his car in Camden in the middle of the night. It wouldn't be the safest situation to be in. But anyway, we were hoping that would still leave us enough time to meet the band after the show. As soon as we got inside, I headed for the bathroom to transfer my tape recorder from its obscene hiding spot to my backpack, where it would be during the show while I recorded it. Then I bought a T-shirt right away so I'd have something else in my backpack to cover up the recorder. I bought the tour shirt. It's the same as the one from the mini-tour in the spring, except it has different cities listed on the back. At the last concert, I got the Animal Instinct shirt with the band on it. They also had a shirt with the furry mug on it and a shirt with the teddy bear from Promises on it. They were all $27. I also bought a tourbook for $15. It came with four postcards, one with the album cover on it and the one each with the covers from the first three singles. Yes, one has the cover of Just My Imagination on it. The tourbook had some interesting info in it. It had a little trivia quiz about the band and its members. One question was, "What is Dolores's favorite band?" My guess was Elvis, since we all know that she's a big Elvis fan, but the answer was Metallica. I swear that it must have been a joke. Has anyone ever heard her talk about Metallica like that before? They also had a cool mousepad there for $22. It had both sides of the Bury the Hatchet cover on it, depending on what angle you look at it from. I didn't buy it since I'm pretty strapped for cash right now, but I wish I had. I'll probably just pick it up from someone on eBay. I heard that they also had cranberries hats and posters, but somehow I missed them. They must have been towards the right side of the display, which I thought was all Collective Soul stuff after my first glance. The souvenir prices are pretty ridiculous at their concerts, but I'm inclined to buy them anyway, because (a) I buy just about every possible cranberries item I can find (check out My Collection on my web page if you don't believe me), and (b) it's for a worthwhile cause since the band gets a much higher percentage from merchandising sales than the do from sales of their CD's. We had a lot of time to kill, but we figured we should check out our seats. Plus, I wanted to see how the security situation was so I could customize my plan of attack for the deployment of the tape recorder. Their was a guard right in front of me, but it wouldn't end up being a factor. Anyway, my seats were better than I had thought they would be. I knew I was in the font row, but I thought I was way to the side. It turns out that the front row was a lot shorter than the rest of the rows in the Pit, so I was actually just a couple seats away from the center. They had metal barricades set up about four feet in front of the front row of seats, so I'd be able to stand a few feet closer during the show. There was about a five foot neutral zone set up between the barricades and the stage. The security guard sat right in front of me in that area. The stage was probably four or five feet above the ground, so I would be looking up at them the whole time, but not at a huge angle. If Dolores planted her mic where I thought she would, I'd probably be about ten feet from her, but if she walked up to the edge of the stage right in font of me, she'd only be about five feet away. This was going to be an awesome concert. There is one problem with having seats like that. After being that close, how can I ever be happy with any seats that aren't front row-center? I don't think I can. I suppose that is a reasonable price to pay for getting the once in a lifetime chance to see my favorite band at such a close range. We still had an hour to kill before Collective Soul came out at 8:00, and their was nothing to watch on stage, so we decided to hang out outside for a little while. We entered some drawing to win a car or something. I think they also had a drawing to win a guitar, but I didn't go to that stand. We also got our pictures taken riding the Mustang horse or something like that. It was pretty lame, but at least it killed some time. I check out some of the prices at the concession stands. They were complete rip-offs. They charged $6 for a cup of Budweiser. You can buy a six pack of Sam Adams for $6, and that's what they charged for a cup of Bud? How absurd?! But it didn't matter to me since (a) I don't like beer, (b) if you drank alcohol before/during the concert, you'd end up missing half of the show because you were in the bathroom, and (c) I'm not quite 21 yet anyway. Well, we went back inside about twenty minutes before 8:00 to wait for Collective Soul. A guy came in a few minutes later with his wife and ~6 year old son and sat next to us. He said he was a huge Collective Soul fan, but had no idea who the cranberries were. From the way this guy was yelling and screaming, it was obvious that this was the high point of his life. Anyway, Collective Soul came out a few minutes after 8:00 and played for an hour, just like last time. I thought the guitarist on the right side was pretty cool. He had his guitar hung so low it just looked awesome when he played. There were a fair number of Collective Soul fans up in the Pit with us, but I couldn't see the rest of the venue enough to count them elsewhere. I think they played the same set list as last time, except for one change. It seems that they play a different cover song every night. Last time it was a U2 song, this time it was something by Ozzy. Right before they played the Ozzy song, which I think was called Crazy Train, the lead singer started talking to some people at the other end of the front row. I looked over to see that it was the same guys that he had brought up on stage to sing the U2 song at the PNC show. Their set ended a few songs later. It was entertaining, but I wasn't really into it this time either. There were a lot of people around me standing the whole time, but I stayed seated to conserve my energy for when the cranberries came out. Fast forward to after the show when I'm outside waiting for the cranberries to come out (I'll come back to it later). So we're with the crowd waiting for the cranberries and who walks out of the building and exists the grounds right where we're standing? Those same two guys from the PNC show. I stopped one of them and asked how he got to go backstage for two concerts in a row. He said that at the last show, his friend was wearing a U2 shirt. They held it up and asked the Collective Soul singer guy to play some U2 song. They did play it a few songs later and the singer brought them up on stage to sing it, and then backstage when they were finished playing. Then, at the show last night, the band saw them and brought them up to the front row, and then backstage. They got to hang out with them for a couple hours and got all kinds of stuff signed. Best of all, the guy said that Collective Soul took down their phone numbers and addresses and said they were going to contact them next time they played in the area. Now, hanging out with Collective Soul wouldn't appeal to me because I barely know who they are, but substitute the cranberries for them, and these two guys are living in my dream world. Could you imagine essentially being friends with the cranberries and hanging out with them whenever they played in your area? That is my wildest fantasy. When the monotony of my current summer job causes me to space out and day dream, I don't dream of being rich and famous, I basically just dream of hanging out with Dolores and the cranberries. The thought of actually living that life just blows my mind. I'm so jealous of those two guys. After Collective Soul finished, it was about a half hour before the cranberries came out. While I was waiting, I went to the bathroom to get my tape recorder all set up. I made sure that all I had to do was hit record and that it was positioned in my bag just right so that I wouldn't screw up the tape like I did last time. After that I went to buy a drink. It was incredibly hot and humid down by the stage, so I was already sweating like a pig, and I hadn't even been dancing yet. Plus, I knew that my mouth would completely dry out from singing at the top of my lungs for the entire concert. They sold sodas for $3, $4, and $5 each for a small, medium, and large, respectively. They wouldn't give you lids or straws for the sodas, and I'm not sure why. I guess they didn't want people to throw them, but I think that it's dumb since you'll be a lot more likely to spill your drink all over your bags on the floor if you don't have a lid. I bought a 12 oz. (?) bottle of water for $3.50. They didn't give me the lid for this either. It might be a good idea to bring your own lid from a similar sized water bottle so you can avoid spilling it back at your seat. Before I could buy my water, I had to wait for the guy in front of me to by alcohol. He was buying alcohol for his wife and two of his friends. He was obviously at least 50 years old, but they carded him anyway. He asked to see the manager. She came over and told him that they had to card everyone who wanted alcohol no matter how old they were. This guy didn't have ID on him, so they wouldn't serve him. Luckily, he called his wife over and she showed her ID to get the drinks. Normally, I'd be pissed if I got stuck in a line where something like this happened, but I wasn't this time because (a) it was really funny, the idea of them carding a guy that's been old enough to buy alcohol for 30 years, and (b) the cranberries wouldn't come out for another fifteen minutes, and this killed some time. The lights dimmed about ten minutes after we got back to our seats. At the same time, this instrumental music started playing. They played the same song last week and also in May (I think). Does anyone know what it was? Anyway, I knew the cranberries would come out in a couple minutes, so at this time I put my tourbook away in my backpack and turned my tape recorder on. I had my tourbook out so I'd have an alibi for suddenly reaching into my backpack right before the band came out, since there was, of course, a security guard sitting right in front of me and looking right at me. I got it turned on without a problem. Later on, I had to switch the tape to record on the other side. I did it right before Waltzing Back, when Dolores was switching guitars. I knew that suddenly sitting down, pulling out my backpack, and fumbling around in it while I tried to hit three button on my tape recorder from my sense of touch alone would look very suspicious, so again, I had an alibi prepared. I had a few tissues thrown into my bag so it would look like I was just reaching around for one of them to blow my nose. The guard definitely sat forward in his seat watching me when I did this, but he sat back when I finally pulled a tissue out and blew my nose after having hit the required buttons. From here, I was in the clear since I was just going to let it record straight through until after the encore had ended. After starting my tape, I moved up to the barricade a few feet in front of my seat. Immediately, people came forward from the latter rows to fill in the seats that had been vacated in the front row. The guard tried to get them to go back to their real seats, but he had minimal success since there were so many people doing it and new people were constantly moving forward for the entire show. Anyway, the cranberries came out playing God Be With You as they had been doing at every show so far. It was awesome. Dolores sounded great, just like the other night. I love her voice so much. She seemed to have trouble getting the sound guy to get the sound level correct in the earphone in her right ear, but not quite as much trouble as last time. I don't know about the rest of the place, but it was really loud up front. I put ear plugs in for Collective Soul, but of course I took them out for the cranberries. I didn't want to miss even a little bit of the sound. My hearing was still messed up when I got up for work the next morning, but it was worth it. The sound was pretty good, but it did sound muffled at times. In particularly, Dolores's voice sounded a little distorted during You and Me and Dreams. I don't think it had anything to do with how she was singing, I think it was just an artifact of where I was standing at those times in relation to the speakers. Anyway, the crowd was kind of eh for God Be With You since the vast majority of people there had probably never heard it before, or if they had heard it, it was just a small part while they were watching The Devil's Own a couple years ago. I was probably one of just a few people there that knew all the lyrics to every single song they played. There were a bunch of times when it sounded like the whole crowd behind me was singing along, but then I looked over at the backup singer, Steve, and saw that it was actually just him singing. One of my friends, who was at the PNC show, insisted that Dolores was singing along with the CD. It seems he didn't believe that Steve could sing at that pitch, so it must have been Dolores's prerecorded voice. But I know the CD's well enough to know that Dolores sang most songs very close to the way she does on the respective CD, but not exactly that way. But anyway, they played Promises next and the crowd responded much better to it since (duh) they had all heard it before. Then they played Animal Instinct, followed by Ode to My Family. The crowd really picked it up for Ode. The crowd seemed to be a lot better this time than last. I saw a lot of people singing along to more than just the few requisite most popular singles that everyone knows from the radio. And Dolores herself seemed to be more into it this time. She looked like she was having a lot of fun out there, constantly dancing and smiling at us and Noel and Mike. She stuck her tongue out several times when she smiled (she's so cute). They continued with Linger and Sunday. Then I think they played Still Can't..., which was the first change in the set list. At the last show, they had played it near the end. After playing the energetic combo of Wanted and Salvation, Dolores ran offstage to get changed. She wore totally different outfits than at the last show. She came out wearing a tight silver dress with a large slit in the back with what I guess you'd call a lightweight pink sweater type thingy covering the top of it. She was wearing white sneakers this time rather than the hard to move around in high heeled boots that she wore last time. When she came back out for Pretty, she was wearing black pants, possibly the same pair she wore at the other show, and a semi-tight black and red speckled short sleeved shirt (I guess that's how you'd describe it). She was wearing her preferred foot covering this time - nothing. For the encore, she wore a long, loose dress that was mostly red or orange, but with some other colors on it to. She had a tighter black thing on underneath it, but I think you could only see that from the back (since the dress didn't have a back). She came out barefoot here, too. Of course I don't need to say it because it's obvious, but she looked awesome all night long. I think she knew it too. She strutted around (you know, with one of her hands on her hips) a couple times during the show. The guys were basically wearing the same things they wore the other night. Mike and Noel had jeans on. Mike had a dark blue shirt on it. Noel had a white shirt on. Fergal had a black shirt on when he came out. He took it off sometime before Pretty. He's pretty buff, you know, the kind of guy you wouldn't want to get in a fight with down at the pub. He came out for the encore in a green shirt (I think). So they played Pretty next. Before she started singing, I think Dolores commented on the meaning of the song, you know women and inner beauty. She talked to the audience throughout the concert, but I don't remember most of what she said. Of course I have the whole thing on tape, and hopefully her in-between song comments were recorded well. Sometime around here, I think Mike must have messed up a little and Dolores said something into her microphone about it, which I didn't catch, and they both had a laugh. She also went over to Noel once and whispered something in his ear and they both laughed about it. As usual, Mike and Noel both stood pretty still on there respective sides of the stage. Of course, I wasn't watching them very often, I was watching Dolores. She is obviously the center of attention when they're up on stage. She went over to Noel multiple times to play her guitar or sing. She also just looked over and smiled at him quite a bit. It would seem that she's closer to Noel then Mike or Fergal, which would make sense considering that they write most of the band's songs together. Of course, I don't mean to imply that the rest of the band doesn't get along well together. After Pretty, they played one of my personal favorites, You and Me. It was great, as expected. Around here they played Go Your Own Way. I think Dolores just introduced it as one most of us probably knew. I think she was correct, since it looked like there were quite a lot of people singing along. I doubt, though, that very many people there had ever heard the cranberries version of this song, which is better than the original, in my opinion. Sometime after this, they made the other change to the set list. They threw in When You're Gone, which made me really happy. That was totally awesome, considering that they didn't play it last week and it's probably my favorite song, particularly live. I was psyched. They finished off their opening set with Zombie and Ridiculous Thoughts once again. I think that's a good combination to end with. Zombie was awesome. It also offers a good chance to see Fergal going all out. After Dolores is done singing and they're finishing out the song with the solo, turn your head away from Dolores (it's hard, I know) and watch Fergal go at it. He kills the drums here. He lifts his left arm way over his head and smashes it down on the cymbals throughout the solo. It looks so awesome. Another time I noticed him looking particularly cool was during I Can't Be With You (I think). I swear he was bouncing like a foot off of his stool while he was playing. You know he's always out there giving it everything he's got. Dolores ran offstage at the end of Ridiculous Thoughts and the lads followed soon after her when they finished playing. They came back out about 15 minutes later. Noel, Mike, and Fergal sat on stools on the left side of the stage. Noel and Mike had their respective instruments, but Fergal was seated at a keyboard. They each only played a little bit during the next song. Dolores rose from behind the back of the set playing Dying in the Sun on a white grand piano. It was very beautiful, and also very soft. It was probably the only time during the concert that I was actually able to hear myself singing, and of course I was singing for the entirety. After the song was finished, the piano disappeared, the extra guitar and keyboard players came out, and everyone went back to their typical spots on the stage. Next they played Shattered. It was good. Dolores sang it with lots of emotion. It was during this song (I think, but it's quite possible that it was before the encore, perhaps during Daffodil Lament), that a guy right next to me threw flowers up on stage to Dolores. I think she acknowledged him, but she didn't stop to pick them up at this point. I don't know what kind they were, just that they were yellow. Maybe they were daffodils. He was holding his ~7 year old daughter in his arms right up front for most of the night. Earlier, when she had been at the edge of the stage right in front of them, Dolores smiled at the little girl while she was singing. My friend later told me that he was trying to get his daughter to throw the flowers on to the stage for quite some time, but she wouldn't do it. When he did throw them up there, I was immediately reminded that I forgot to bring anything. As soon as I had bought my front row ticket, I decided that I should bring something to throw up on stage to Dolores, since the ability to do so is the best perk of being in the front row. The obvious choice was to bring flowers. Unfortunately, I ended up forgetting about it until it was way too late. During the encore, there was a guy just a few feet down in the front row holding up signs he had made. The first one I saw just said Paparazzi on Mopeds, in big letters. I think Dolores saw it, but she didn't acknowledge it as far as I could tell. Later, during the final song, he held up a different sign, but I don't know what it said since he never turned it towards me. I think Dolores read it and blew him a kiss. How cool? Anyway, next they played Just My Imagination, their forthcoming single. I thought it was a particularly good rendition. Sometime during either this song or the following two, Dolores picked up the flowers that were at the edge of the stage and held them behind her ear for a minute. Then she walked back and put them in front of Fergal's drums. Next, they played Liar. I think Dolores commented about it being an older song. I only noticed one other person, a girl at the other end of the front row, that was also singing along to it. Dolores danced all around the stage during it. As always, she danced her standard Irish Jig once the vocal part was done. The crowd loved it. Just in case anyone was wondering, all the high kicks she did during it showed that she does, in fact, have nice legs. Anyway, they finished off the concert with Dreams. It's such a great song to end with since, of course everyone knows it, and it's a good upbeat song that you can easily dance to. When it was done, Dolores made her standard exit (she ran offstage as soon as she was done singing). The guys finished playing and left the stage at a more leisurely pace. Fergal must have really gotten pumped up during the show. When he finished playing, he picked up his stool and threw it into his kit. I've never heard of him doing that before. As he was walking off the stage, he threw one of his gloves out into the audience. At first, nothing happened once they left. I thought that maybe they'd come out to do a second encore, but then Ave Maria came on a minute or two later, signaling that the show was really over. I asked the security guard right in front of me if I could have a set list from the stage. He said he couldn't go up there, but if someone handed it to him, he would give it to me. After much pleading by me and the rest of the crowd that was waiting right up front, one of the roadies on stage finally came over and pulled the set lists off the floor and handed them to the guards down below. I got Dolores's. Unfortunately, it was on two pieces of paper and the guard only gave me the first one. So, my half goes from God Be With You to You and Me. Other people around me got guitar picks and even Fergal's drum sticks. After everything form the stage was distributed, we made our way out. One guy that was standing near the front offered me $100 for the set list, but of course I wouldn't give up something so special. After heading into the bathroom to turn my tape recorder off and confirm that it had recorded correctly (which it did), I headed outside. I found out from one of the guards that the band's buses would have to come out right around the corner. We walked over there and saw a large crowd of people waiting by a very large wooden/metal gate. I walked up to it so I could see through, and I saw that the other side was a large parking lot with several buses and tractor trailers parked on it. By this time it was probably 11:20. We hoped that the band would come out soon because we knew that we'd have to move the car by 12:00 to avoid having it towed away. Several employees and a couple cars left through the gate while we were waiting. After a while, the lead singer of Collective Soul came out and signed some autographs. Some girl had brought a big painting that she had made of him, and I think she got her picture taken with him. It was close to midnight by now, and there was no sign of the cranberries. Jeff started getting anxious to leave when we saw that there were already some tow trucks parked out on the street, just waiting for midnight to come. I wanted to just move the car from the parking lot to the street somewhere, but he didn't want to do that. I tried to get a ride from a guy I knew from the net, but I couldn't since it would have taken him an hour out of his way. I would have even taken a cab home, but after buying the T-shirt earlier, I only had about $10 left in my wallet. So, reluctantly, I went home with Jeff right at midnight. The following night, I got an email from that same guy I know from the net saying that Dolores had come out a little while later and talked to the crowd and signed things. Immediately, I realized how stupid it was to let someone else drive me to the concert. When something is important to you, as meeting Dolores (if possible) was to me, you shouldn't give control of the situation to anyone else. It was exactly then I decided that I would drive myself to all future cranberries concerts I attend. If I had driven to this one, I would have just moved car from the tow zone and waited around with everyone else until they came out. If they ended up not coming out, I would have wasted a couple hours, but it would have been alright since there wasn't anything I could have done about it. Instead, I just missed her by a few minutes. Disappointment. I shouldn't have done, I couldn't have done, I wouldn't have done the things I did then. I could have been happy. It's depressing to think that I came so close, but that now I'll have to wait probably three years for them to tour again. Meeting the whole band the very first time I saw them spoiled me so that now if don't meet them after a show, it'll be a letdown. I mean, it's awesome that I got to see them three times in the last four months, but I don't feel so happy here today. Anyway, I did get to see a superb show by the best band from just about the best possible seat. It's hard to compare the three shows I've been to. They were all totally awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed each one. I consider each of them to be money very well spent, even though they ended up being quite expensive when you include the souvenirs I bought (and the tape recorder too). I guess the first one was probably my favorite. It had a different feel to it, probably since it was the first time I had ever seen them in person. The smaller venue was also nice. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I did meet the band afterwards or that it was on my birthday. Yes, I think I was definitely spoiled by that show. But I do have good recordings of these last two. I'll put them on CD soon (email me if you want a copy), so I'll be able to relive them over and over again. That's definitely a good thing. Considering how incredibly long this ended up being, I'd be surprised if anyone actually read down this far. But if you're reading this now, I guess you did. So, if you have questions or comments, if you sympathize with how I missed meeting Dolores again by a few minutes, if you think I should quit whining because I already met her once, if you love my writing style, if you hate my writing style, or if you saw the cranberries live on 5/3/99, 8/13/99, or 8/17/99 (or even any other day) and you want to talk about it, just send me an email.
