Coincidentally, if memory serves, there was a conversation in late 97 on this list about what songs on the new album might be about, and the two things that were mentioned were the (then unborn) baby and Princess Diana's death... And that version of Dreams we got, the canadian version (wich is very often mistaken for a promo single) only has the album versions of Dreams and Linger. Oh, and we also got the Canadian version of Ode to my Familly. I hate waiting for the stuff to arrive here and some shops take advantage since I once saw HMV selling the Salvation (just the single not the box) at 20$!!!!!!!!!! Luckely I know a great shop were they sell imports and collector items. I just hope it wont take long for us in the US and Canada to get the singles. Bye bye! The music store up at the mall (which usually doesn't have much) had Promises #1 and #2!! But that wasn't until after the album came out, so it wasn't much. But I had to get them anyway ;) I made a trade deal with someone, so I've already got an AI single owed to me ;) -Alex - ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Goyette" Reply-To: "Goyette" To: "Alex Kraus" , "Ridiculous Thoughts mailling list" Subject: Re: %Cran: (no subject) Date: Mon, 7 Jun 1999 06:18:54 -0400 >I think you're using "North America" too loosely. I got Promises for $8.99, but I've gone back recently and I've seen copies tagged for both $8.99 and $9.99! Pretty ridiculous. You'd think they would clear out the ones for 8.99 before tagging new shipments at $10, but that's just me. - -Brett ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Jun 1999 14:48:49 PDT From: Alex Kraus Subject: %Cran: Enjoy! Message From YeatsGrave@aol.com: "" - ------------------------------------------------------------- Cranberries To Tour U.S. In Late Summer Collective Soul will open for the Aug. 5-Sept. 18 venture dubbed Loud and Clear. Senior Writer Gil Kaufman and Contributing Editor Frank Tortorici report Thurs., May 13, 7:38 PM EDT - -------------------------------------------------------------- Irish pop-rock group the Cranberries will return to the road after a few years away with a U.S. tour beginning Aug. 5 at the Sundome in Tampa, Fla. Dubbed the Loud and Clear Tour, it's their first significant road trip in nearly three years and will feature rockers Collective Soul as the opening act. The show winds up Sept. 18 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, Calif. Returning from the longest break they'd ever taken, the Cranberries recently released their fourth album, Bury the Hatchet, which entered the Billboard 200 albums chart last week at #13. After releasing three albums in three years, the band took a vacation following its 1996 tour to promote To the Faithful Departed. That outing was cut short when Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan injured her leg. The album went platinum, but it was the band's weakest-selling release. The Cranberries previewed their revived sound during a 90-minute show May 5 at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom -- part of a brief club tour. With several songs dedicated to motherhood, the new album's familial themes were evident as O'Riordan introduced the new track "Saving Grace" by saying, "This song I wrote just before I gave birth to my son." "I can't wait to see your face/ It could happen here today," she sang, softly moaning the words while rolling her eyes upward as if seeking divine assistance. The band -- which also features drummer Fergal Lawler and the Hogan brothers, Mike on bass and Noel on lead guitar -- will be augmented by a keyboard player and additional guitarist on the tour. Climbing to prominence on the shoulders of the swaying rock ballad "Linger," from their 1993 debut, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, the Cranberries have had a string of hits. Their triumphs include the songs "Ode to My Family" and the slightly harder-edged "Zombie," both from the 1994 album No Need to Argue. The band formed in Limerick, Ireland, in 1990 and built its sound on a mix of late-'80s British dream-pop and traditional Irish melodies. Bury the Hatchet was produced by Benedict Fenner (David Bowie, Elvis Costello) and recorded in Canada and France. The first single from the 13-song album is "Promises" (RealAudio excerpt).
