Hi there... German album charts look a bit nicer, as they entered at #1, then dropped to #3 due to two new entries and went up back to #2 this week. So they might get back to the top spot, next week. Stupid, is it not? I mean, these were not even new songs, maybe even non-album tracks, but e.g. "In Your Head" was a huge success everywhere, so how comes they have a reviewer who even is unable to know the song names. :-\ Take care, - Frederik +++ ICQ *3887587* +++ *Homepage at* http://www.puti.de/home +++ +++ *Cranberries Cover Gallery* +++ http://www.puti.de/crancovers +++ - --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Ridiculous Thoughts Mailing List Send posts to : cranlist@smoe.org Send unsubscribe requests to: cranlist-request@smoe.org Put "unsubscribe" in the BODY of the message. I didn't have high expectations for it. I waited a full week after it came out before I bought it. I got it the day after I saw them in concert (not just a coincidence). I loved the new songs live, so I was eager to listen to it when I finally did buy it. I listened to it twice straight through when I got it home. Then I ripped the whole thing to mp3's and listened to it again. I think I wanted to listen to it again, but I had to go to bed. I think I've listened to the whole thing about 20 times in the week and a half since then. This contrasts heavily with TTFD. I bought TTFD immediately after school the day it came out. I got it home and listened to it once right away but had no immediate desire to listen to it again. I listened to it the next day and it grew on me. I like it now and it has some of my favorite songs (When You're Gone, Electric Blue, Joe, and Cordell), but I don't think it's quite as good as the first two. So judging by my initial reaction to it, I think it's better than TTFD. I think I'll have to wait for the novelty to wear off before I can really compare it to the first two albums, though. Now for the random commentaries... I don't dislike any songs on BTH, but my favorite songs from it are probably You and Me and Loud and Clear and then Saving Grace, What's on My Mind, and Dying in the Sun. Overall, the album reminds me of their first album, as Fergal had said long ago on the web page. There are exceptions, of course. Why isn't You and Me going to be a single? Not only is it a great song, it exemplifies what the cranberries are all about in my opinion. Why was Promises the first single? Why is the first single (Zombie, Salvation, and Promises) always harder than the rest of the album? I guess the execs at Island think those will sell more albums, but those songs just aren't what I think of when I think of the cranberries. Why do all the reviewers say that Just My Imagination is a rip off of Madness's Our House? I downloaded an mp3 of it, and I don't hear any similarities. The file is on my server (ftp://Cran:berries@scorcher.dhs.org/c:/sound/mp3's/cran/Madness - Our House.mp3) if anyone wants to decide for themselves. BTW, there's a note about my server at the end of all this. Another thing that reviewers keep saying, the lyrics are too repetitive. I think that this is true in some instances. In Baby Blues, for example, she does say "shut up" quite a lot. But I have news for you folks (well actually, its been said before), Dolores could sing the Limerick phone book and it would sound good. This doesn't mean that she should sing the phone book, just that if she did, it would still sound good. Why didn't What's on My Mind make it on to the X-files soundtrack? It would have been perfect for the scene were Mulder and Scully almost kiss in the hallway. Oh well, It's Chris Carter's loss, not ours (since we got to hear it anyway). What's up with Dolores's voice on Dying in the Sun? Was it altered in some way? The first time I heard it, all I could think about was how weird it was. Then I listened to it again and found that I really liked the song. What's Shattered about? I can't figure out what the line "There's a climax coming my way" means (well, I hope I don't know what it really means). I don't like the new covers with all their weird artwork. The band photos from the previous albums were much cooler. I don't like the new .ie website. I thought it was cooler before in its simple form since it's supposed to be the band's personal site. It looks to commercial now. Why do we need another commercial site when we already have the .com one? And it would take forever to load if I didn't have ethernet. Judging from the lyrics as a whole, Dolores was really unhappy around the time of TTFD and the FTD tour. It's good to see that she is happy once again. Well, that's all I can think of for now. So anyway, in conclusion...BTH...I like it. I like it a lot. About my ftp server (ftp://Cran:berries@scorcher.dhs.org) ...Due to excessive numbers of people downloading the regular cranberries albums or leeching in general, I've moved all of the rare/live cranberries tracks to a new directory and now you only have access to those, not the rest of my mp3's. I think I have about 50 files in that directory, so it's still worth checking out (until Tuesday) if you want to fill out your collection. The following IP's have been banned... 207.139.*.*, 195.115.88.22, 209.45.91.*, 128.147.171.48, 137.224.132.183, 24.200.36.128, 194.71.18.2. If yours is one of them, don't bother asking me to un-ban it. It's your own fault that it got banned in the first place. BTW, uploads are welcome. If you have any rare or (more likely) live tracks that I don't have, feel free to put them in my uploads directory. I've had thousands of users log on, and gigs of mp3's downloaded from my computer, but only two people have uploaded anything to my machine.
