I have been waiting 7 long desperate years for this day and it was worth every minute of it. I have been obsessed with the berries since about 94...I was supposed to see them in 96 on the free to decide world tour but they cancelled the day before. anyway i digress... let me start off by saying I went to NYC on Apr 26 (which is also my good friend Chrissy's birthday) to see the cranberries with her on the david letterman show. well we got inside and Chrissy told the people at letterman that it was her birthday and they gave us front row seats (if you have the whole letterman show on tape you can see us twice...one at the beginning in the audience pan shot ..i am wearing a bright red jacket and glasses, chrissy is on my left and bobby, our friend, is to her left. the other time you can see us is right after the top ten list when letterman mentions free chili for the audience.) we first met fergal when he, noel and mike got out of their car and went inside the studio. noel and mike went it immediately but fergal stayed out and signed some autographs. chrissy gave him some drawing of the band she has done...shes a very very talented artist. we talked for a few seconds and he went inside. then we had to go get our tickets, and when we got back dolores was out signing for people, there was a big crowd and such little space but chrissy got some nice snaps of her...but she was going inside as we arrived, so we didnt get to talk to her. we watched the cranberries play Promises and they did a fantastic job. the really rocked. even letterman said that he liked the song and "thought it was peppy" or something to that effect. dolores really looked good in a shiny tight ankle length ruby red glimmering skirt and a sleeveless leather shirt that didnt come above her armpits. after the show we went outside and saw a crowd of people on one side of the barricade waiting for the band to come out. well there was no one on the other side of the barricade and the boys car was closer there so we went to the other side and noel and mike came out...didnt stop at the other side where the crowd was and headed straight to the car, but since chrissy and i were there we got to talk to them for a bit, i got to shake their hands, got some autographs, and then they left. fergal was on the other side signing for the crowd. he got in the car and then dolores and don came out. they went over to the crowd and signed and started to get into their car but right as they were getting in I called dolores to come over to the other side. well she got in her car and rolled down her window, then waved for chrissy and me to come over. so they let us through the barricade and we went over to her car where she and don were sitting. i said hi to don and he said hi back rather tersely. we talked to dolores for a bit, got her autograph and a picture. we asked her if she saw the pictures chrissy had made and she said no. we told her fergal had them, to ask about them. i dont know if she ever saw them though. Dolores was very nice and softspoken. i shook her hand (damn she has a firm handshake!) and then they left. it was an awesome experience and a day I will never forget. incidentally i got all four members to sign my Uncertain CD. ;) ok so that was monday. today is wednesday and I just got back from my first cranberries concert...and let me just say words cannot describe how I felt. it was just the best thing in my life ever. my friend Glenn and I went to DC around 2:00pm (doors to the club opened at 7:30 but you know I had to be there early) it was general admission and i wanted to make sure i got in the front right in the middle. the club is standing room only and is very small and intimate. well there were only 7 of us and so we played cards for an hour or so to pass the time. then 2 more people came and I found out it was someone I had know from the net (her name is shannon and she runs the forever yellow skies webpage) it was cool meeting her. so as we are waiting outside the the guys from the club come out and hand us posters and told us when we got inside we could take the ones from the wall off so i took some for me (3 different in total) and one extra. we waited in anticipation for them to come out...Jude opened for them and he was pretty good. so they come out and the crowd goes wild. meanwhile we are bootlegging this whole concert. anyway dolores came out in the black pants and weird shiny half boots and a tight pink spandex stip as her shirt (um very revealing) with a little jacket on top which she took off after about one or two songs. i brought with me another drawing that chrissy had done just to make sure dolores gone at least one of her drawings...so i was waving it around in the air and dolores saw it..(mind you we are in the very front center where dolores' spit couldve landed on us) and she opens her eyes real wide and stares at the picture for a few secs. so afterward i lay it on the stage and she picks it up and whispers thank you to me in a very sincere way. it was awesome. so they really rocked and everyone was having a good time and singing along and they were just soooooo unbelieveable incredible stupdenous. they continued to rock the house, left, came back for the encore, and then it was over =( i went and bought 2 tshirts another poster and went outside. we waiting an hour and a half and finally dolores and don came out....there was about 15 people waiting for her. we all got her autograph and many many pictures. i went up to her and talked with her a bit about new york and chrissys drawing and got her to sign my bth cd (she wrote to paul dolores) and got her to sign a promises promo "to ashley dolores xx) hehe. i talked to don a bit too...shook his hand...he had an even tighter grip than dolores...and he asked me where i lived (interesting question to ask huh?) we never saw the boys come out...i think they left immediately after the show. well dolores got in her bus with don and they left. it was an experience of a lifetime...and to think i get to do it all agian on Friday at the Philly show! dolores is so silly on stage....she does the strangest things with her body!! hahaha. hmm I hope i didnt leave any detail out... im overwhelmed and humbled and gratified.
