I will be able to share my impression from BTH after several listennings. Though it´s now 0:30 a.m. I hope i will not fall asleep... Fyi there is practically no promotion of berries album here in Prague, only one profile article in top musical magazine and one stupid review in daily press so it is a miracle that at least the album is here... I was looking at the setlist up on www.cranberries.ie for one of their recent shows and they are hardly playing anything besides BTH stuff. Only a couple from NNTA and 1 from TTFD (Salvation). They are still playing a lot of EBE stuff but nothing that hasn't been heard for a while. I would have liked to hear I Still Do or Put Me Down...oh well. The branch, the eye and the hammer? 3) When they say O'Riordon/Hogan do they mean it was composed by Noel (not Mike right?) too? 4) Are they 3 versions of "Free to Decide" singles? I have one in a slim CD case with 'Free to Decide', 'Cordell' and 'The Picture I View' the other 2 I saw at HMV had 4 tracks, was: a paperjacket one with 'Free to Decide', 'The Picture I View' something else and live version of 'Ridiculous Thoughts'. and another slim CD case on the same. The Singapore release has 14 trax and a silly sticker, right on the booklet (argh) that says "not for sale in the EU." doesn that mean not for sale in Europe? I think this new album is great! TTFD was great as well, but the theme was kinda depressing. Although there were abt 4 tracks I would skip. Of course the 2 b4 were Cran-Classics! Lyrically I think it's fine, (and I mean fy-ine.) many themes explored. child sexual abuse, loud and clear themes and soft-deep feelings themes...just the way Dol's character is, it seems. Melody-wise, it's very surprising, very appealing, I think it's GREAT~! "Animal Instinct", "Loud And Clear" (the ringing tone in my ear), "Saving Grace" (somehow saving grace doesn't sound authenically a Cran song...dun u think? I mean, doesn't seem their style, but of course they always surprise, so it's cool.), Delilah (THE 90'S DELILAH!), "copycat", "JUST My imagination"... you and me was for Taylor...hmm... just a few of my faves here. anyway, it's denfinitely TOO MUCH TO HANDLE! 14 great trax. Honestly I think we should never let reviews get to us, it's better not to read too much before you even hear the stuff. Or in this case, Let your ears listen first-hand without being disuaded by your mind. Here's a Singapore Ent/Mag's review. 8 DAYS by Yeow Kai Chai some thots that I can relate to, not totally though: "Do you know you made me cry?" Dolores Cranberry laments sweetly in the opener 'Animal Instinct', a perky guitar rocker which hearkens back to the Irish foursome's more ethereal first two albums tather than the criminally dour 'To The Faithful Departed' fortuitous beginning, you think. Next comes the noise-fest 'Loud And Clear' with the happy-go-lucky, slightly sourish refrain "get yourself a life", and suddenly, it's 'Zombie' all over again but with dodgier lyrics. Uh-oh. The first half of the album more or less replicates this acceptance/accusation stance, a polemical dualism flinging you back and forth between the two Doloreses: one a young mother who's found inner peace and joy, and the other a recalcitrant spoilt brat who can't help but feel vilified by the big bad wolves out there even though she's flashign teh peace sign. So, can you blame me if I rather settle for teh less pretentious, more staright-foward strummers like 'You And Me', 'Just My Imagination' and 'Saving Grace' where she tones down those vocal tics and just plain sing. In conclusion, an album stadia of youth would love. Hooray. Buy the album. Bury the hatchet. Move on. I don't think she did anything.. unless her name's printed in the booklet. I don't have the album yet (cause im in the US), so correct me if I'm wrong. 2) What do u think those 3 symbols on the BTH CD mean? The branch, the eye and the hammer? Ummm... I'm not quite sure where you get a branch and a hammer. There's a nude man on the front, if that's what you're referring to. My personal interpretation is the eye is the media. During TTFD, they were under so much stress and all the media did was 'watch' them on end. I suppose the naked man symbolizes the shameful condition that the band was in. The man bends over, as if to hide his nakedness.. the band, too, tried to hide their problems. I don't think any of us really saw any sign that the band was on the verge of breakup during TTFD. Also, that same idea is shown in the video of FTD, at the beginning where dolores has to practically crawl through the people with the cameras. 3) When they say O'Riordon/Hogan do they mean it was composed by Noel (not Mike right?) too? Of course :) 4) Are they 3 versions of "Free to Decide" singles?
