It takes a couple of listens to get acclimated to it simply because it is so odd to hear a HAPPY Cranberries song! But that's the cool thing, the song has happy, positive vibes. You can sense that the berries have passed a crossroads in their careers and took a turn for the better (not just musically). If you read the Q article for April (very informative) you'll know that the band has completed a 180 degree turn around from when they halted the TTFD tour. Dolores actually said that she would never sing again, and the band was truly contemplating breaking up. And now I'm just truly delighted to hear this new positive energy from their music finally (mostly for their sake). Don't get me wrong, the first 3 albums were wonderful, but it was obvious that they were miserable. Can't wait to hear BTH! "The sweetest thing" is a VERY soft pop. I guess I actually always like their harder side better, but I came into the Berries in 1996 with Salvation and it was the first band I ever really liked, some came after them and I did collect and buy the Berries' and the others band's older stuff, too. But I never in my life... sniff... had ever had the "opportunity" to get new stuff from any of "my" bands. All I ever got was old EPs and such, but they never released anything until now. I was actually so scared to not like the new stuff that I could have screamed in joy when I heard Promises for the first time, and that I now also love Sweetest Thing makes me even more confident that I will not fall off from liking them in the future... They sound so happy now I can do nothing but smile... a rather pleasant feeling, actually. ;-) > On the other hand, the single's artwork is the coolest The Berries > ever had. Did someone say here that it was done by the same > guy who made artworks for Pink Floyd ? It is nice, but I missed the band photos from the old releases. A pity that there is not even a tiny photo on the backcover. ;-) > I should say : the cover is better than the book (IMHO). > I hope you won't come to the same conclusions. Don't worry, I do not. ;-) I am so happy with everything that people just *must* wonder why I carry around such a stupid smile all the time. ;-) Now all I am waiting for is the UK release for the two additional live versions. :-) > Those were my impressions. > How about you, guys ? They were actually pretty similar, but who knows what part of the songs they took, how long they are and how they vary (maybe like The Pic I View) from soft to hard, so we just have to wait. ;-) Oh, you might look forward to Delilah, which the Q Mag describes as making Zombie look like a Lullabie. ;-) Take care, - Frederik +++ ICQ *3887587* +++ *Homepage at* http://www.puti.de/home +++ +++ *Cranberries Cover Gallery* +++ http://www.puti.de/crancovers +++ - --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Ridiculous Thoughts Mailing List Send posts to : cranlist@smoe.org Send unsubscribe requests to: cranlist-request@smoe.org Put "unsubscribe" in the BODY of the message. I was wondering if anyone in the U.K. (or people that are familiar with the BBC channels) could let the list now when this performance is. The only two BBC channels I get are World and Prime. I have seen this show on one of these channels, but I don't know when they are showing it. I checked my TV program and found nothing for tomorrow - maybe it's shown for the second time in the weekend? Please answer this :) Also, I was lucky enough to get the Promises single yesterday - the music stores did not have it on Monday, and when I called them yesterday they had gotten it. When I went to buy it (in the afternoon) they hadn't taken the time to wrap it out! They had to find it the stockroom!!! About The Sweetest Thing, I must say I liked it. It was a bit bizarre and very unique, and Dolores' voice sounded really, really great :) The album version of Promises was better than the edit, don't you think? The live version of Linger was also good, but I'd rather have another of the new songs (I hope all the other singles will be full of these). Bye for now! Two quick questions: 1. does anybody know the exact (confirmed) release dates for BTH in France? 2. For a personal favour, if you have the time (perhaps whilst listening to the "promises" mp3's), could you take a minute to answer the question at http://www.geocities.com/Paris/LeftBank/4796/survey.html (a picture of a girl friend, you decide if she's good looking...she'll hate me for it in good fun of course :-) Martin _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Ok, the MP3's are online now. You can find them under the 'Multimedia' section at: http://www.the-cranberries.net/ Unfortunately, I didn't have enough server space, so I encoded them all in mono (but otherwise still CD quality). This was a very tough decision, but I wanted to have all MP3's online at the same time. Feedback on the topic is more than welcome. Just thought I'd let you know my initial thoughts regarding the new album. (Yes, I did manage to get a copy). Overall, my initial impression was that the songs all sounded very much the same. I didn't have the time to do a real critical listening (I was driving), but none of the songs really stood out. They sounded fine, but it seemed like there was little of the strong melody that dominates previous Cranberries material. I'm hoping to listen to the disc a little more and have a little more detail. It's very interesting to compare this disc to TTFD, where I was very disappointed with the versions of the songs that were on the album. I had heard most of them previously live for TTFD, and I thought the live versions were infinitely better. In this case, I wasn't left with the "Wow" factor that NNTA and EEIDISWCW, but not the bitter taste of TTFD. TTFD tended to grow on me with additional listening, so maybe this one will do the same. Just thought I'd share, Greg gteltschik@mindspring.com - --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Ridiculous Thoughts Mailing List Send posts to : cranlist@smoe.org Send unsubscribe requests to: cranlist-request@smoe.org Put "unsubscribe" in the BODY of the message. Hi there Sue... I guess u've just gone out and bought the Promises single like the majority of us have (or are trying to)... :) as for dates on tours/releases, there's a fairly reliable site which u can look it up at... only fairly reliable, cause sometimes they don't get around to putting up the new stuff, and it appears elsewhere 1st (rather rare, I spose)... so look up : www.cranberries.ie Since monday I musta listened to the single sooo many times that now I generally have both songs (well, one at a time) constantly going thru my head... :) Tis great... can't think of anything else I'd prefer going thru it atm... ;) nic... ps: is this gonna be the start of another wave of new subscribers like we had when TTFD was released? pps: maybe someone should write a quick RTML FAQ with such stuff as where the official site is, how to un/subscribe, where Tim keeps his discography (is it actually up on a site anywhere?), and other FAQ's... ??? would save all new ppl asking the same questions over and over???
