I wish I could be as enthusiastic as you. I agree : it's weird, strange, new and interesting (for The Berries), but I can't "catch" the melody here. Fans that prefer "heavy" songs like "Zombie" or "Salvation" will be disappointed. "The sweetest thing" is a VERY soft pop. On the other hand, the single's artwork is the coolest The Berries ever had. Did someone say here that it was done by the same guy who made artworks for Pink Floyd ? I should say : the cover is better than the book (IMHO). I hope you won't come to the same conclusions. That's it about the single. I've listened to six RealAudio samples of BTH from http://www.mercuryrecords.de and this is what I think: - -Animal instinct Pretty song, quiet. I can't find any similar songs from previous albums. - -Dying in the sun Lovely piano and violin there ! The lyrics a bit too repetitive. - -Just my imagination Quite nice, too. The sample is too short to say more. Cool background vocals (as well as in other songs). - -Shattered Interesting melody. Damnit, the samples are so short ! - -You and me The vocal melody reminds me of "God be with you". - -Promises (of course) Those were my impressions. I had to drive 160 kms total, but I was able to find one at the Windsor, Ontario HMV. They only had two copies there before I took one. Cost me $9.99 Canadian, not too badly priced. As for The Sweetest Thing, it's pretty good overall, but why did they have to put those cheesy Kenny G. horns in there?! That kind of wrecks an otherwise good song. Linger doesn't sound too bad, but they should have picked something else to put on. It's not like people are desparately searching for that track... It was the only one left in the store. I love the full version of "Promises". I don't really like "Sweetest Thing". Its OK but not one of my favorites. It kinda reminds me of "Will you remember?". I don't know if anyone else noticed but when you listen to Promises and then to Linger, you can really hear the difference of quality of Dolores' voice. It sounds better now (not that it sounded bad on TTFD). I asked at the record store if they had dates for the next singles and they said they would be realeased after the album. Anyways, I'm really happy to finally get "Promises" on the first day. I gathered that there was to be 2 versions, but maybe the ppl here in Oz are lazy like everyone else here, and decided only to do one)... True, would be better if the linger version was the one played recently, or even better, if it wasn't linger, but another song... but wishful thinking get's u nowhere...
