I was happy with how quickly it caught on with listeners because right after they world premiered it it was being requested. I don't know if the day they premiered it it was on TPCC but it has been on it for a few days and has been doing it very well. I don't know if other stations are playing it because I only listen to The End. I myself like the song a lot. I didn't know what to expect after loving the first two CDs but not the third but I am definitely surprised. I can't wait to get the CD and for other singles to pop up on the radio. Ok, I don't want to start a fight here, but I'm a little upset right now to say the least... I just visited the Berryfest '99 Website Contest page: http://members.tripod.com/~zombieguide/berryfest1.html ... and saw that it has been shut down due to "questionable voting". Now I'm not stupid, and I'm sure that the site in question here had to be mine due to it's overwhelming lead (last time I checked). Since it's my reputation at stake here (something I don't take lightly), I'd like to explain what *I think* probably happened: After finally finding time to visit the Website Contest page, I saw that my site wasn't doing so hot, so I figured a little plug on my main page http://www.the-cranberries.net/ ) couldn't hurt. And boy did it ever change things... I noticed my site skyrocket since then. Although, this wasn't all that surprising considering that my page gets (on average) about 400+ hits per day. Suppose that only 10% of those people actually took the time to vote for my site, that would still be about 40 votes per day (possibly lower considering return visits, but for the sake of argument, let's keep it simple). I guess the point I'm trying to get at is, I didn't just sit here on my computer voting for my site over and over... I HAVE MUCH BETTER THINGS TO DO WITH MY TIME. In fact, most standard cgi polls can easily prevent that. I put ALOT of time (and $$ for hosting) into my site. I'm very proud of it, but to see it (and me) cut down in this way really hurts. If plugging my site in this way was wrong, then I'm sincerely sorry. I wouldn't have done so, but I noticed that the very page putting on the contest had done the same, so I didn't think twice about doing it for my site. I'm sorry if I've inadvertently stepped on some feet here, but I didn't (and still don't) see anything wrong with the way I lobbied for votes. Hell, if lobbying for votes is wrong, how are people supposed to know the contest even exists? Greg, I'm sorry if this was inappropriate for the list, but I really needed to get this off my chest. It was a promo for a station that is out of Milwaukee, WI. (I live in WI) Keep in mind, this station doesn't play "Promises" at all yet. The call themselves 106 Point 9-The Point This weekend is Irish music weekend. They are giving away prizes and such for U2. In the commercial a person with an Irish accent is talking about how it's Irish weekend on the point. And qoute, "Featuring music from U2, (play a little clip) ummmm, U2 (play another U2 clip) and aaahhh, ummmm, U2!! (the play another U2 song clip)" At this point the typical annoucers,(one man, the other Female) Man: Wait a minute, Don't we have any other Irish Point Artists? Female: Not really M: What about Peter Gabriel? F: He's British M: Garbage? F: Nope, Scottish M: What about The Cranberries? F: Yeah, but their album doesn't come out until next month. M: Oh, ok then... Then it goes on talking about U2 some more. I just thought this was somewhat interesting, since right after the promo they DID PLAY DREAMS!!!!!!! Ah well, just a another day in stupid hicksville Wisconsin. ******************************************** "I dress up with a conscience When I think you'll be watching I say all the right things I don't know what I mean" --"Am I Getting Through" Sheryl Crow ******************************************** - --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Ridiculous Thoughts Mailing List Send posts to : cranlist@smoe.org Send unsubscribe requests to: cranlist-request@smoe.org Put "unsubscribe" in the BODY of the message. After listening to the available clips, I'm not so sure about what I've heard. Of course, I can't make a final comment until I listen to the whole CD, but it sure doesn't remind me of the more powerful songs on the previous albums. Although, given the garbage that's playing on the radio right now (I don't care what your name is, Slim Shady!), I might just be getting overly alarmed. I'm sure I'll like a few songs on it, but it seems that as some bands age and things start going well in the member's lives, the songs just don't seem to be as good. That's just my opinion though. I tend to prefer more depressing songs instead of the upbeat sugar pop that's so popular now. But obviously there are lots of people that enjoy upbeat stuff, because it wouldn't be selling otherwise. Anyway, I'll make my final analysis on April 27. ;) - -Brett - --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Ridiculous Thoughts Mailing List Send posts to : cranlist@smoe.org Send unsubscribe requests to: cranlist-request@smoe.org Put "unsubscribe" in the BODY of the message.
