Ooh, good idea. We should all recommend our favorite bands. I know that on the Sundays homepage there is a list of bands liked by Sundays fans. I haven't come across a list of bands liked by cranberries fans. maybe there is, and maybe I just haven't been paying attention to the liast all that much the past few months. But I'll add to this list. The Sundays, Ben Folds Five, Liz Phair, R.E.M, Buffalo Tom, Sarah McLachlan. I know there are more, but I'm too lazy to look through my cds. - -Emmy - --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Ridiculous Thoughts Mailing List Send posts to : cranlist@smoe.org Send unsubscribe requests to: cranlist-request@smoe.org Put "unsubscribe" in the BODY of the message. OH Pippin, you are really right on this one. I DO NOT WANT TO BLAME new subscribers. Yes indeed, it is quite difficult to discuss something interesting right now because so little is happening...And so little has happened for almost 1.5 year now on the list. But i just want to say that this list definitely lacks the spirit it had 4 years ago. For instance, in the 4 years i have been here, I might have made 30 CDs of uncertain with color sleeve to different people . And you know at what price ...well Peanuts : blank CD + shipping handling which is may be 5$ or something. Because I have managed to collect most of I have thanks to the internet. And I think that it s my turn to provide people with great stuff. I sent recently to a girl in anchorage, Alaska a compilation with all the B sides + genuine rare material + Uncertain+ my own boot, that means 2 CDs 80 minuts for 0$. Yes that's not a typo : 0$ peanuts. She had never heard any b sides, because just imagine how hard it can be to find stuff over there. She didn't had to pay anything because I have promised to send it to her for more than 6 months and I was ashamed to be so late, so I decided she didn't had to pay. Don't get me wrong, I do not earn so much every month. Otherwise i would do this more often, believe me, I am just generous, because I consider every fan in the first place as a friend whom with I share something. But the right question is : Who would be ready to do this on this list now? even me have lost the faith and will : there were a time when most of the people did not even think to this question. We were just sharing their own stuff. And it was great. Too bad this has gone. May be the new album will made some new old berries lovers subscribe and this list will get new fresh blood. And may be there will be more stuff to exchange. This has not be the case for quite a long time as you have said...Which can explain in a sense the situation. Anyway some of the posts I have read lately in reaction to my mail have surprised me in a good way. A lot of people do think outthere. Too bad they don' t express themself more often... You know what I think, Pippin, which is quite funny: we have certainly more in common that we think because you remind me a little of me, when I was so fond of the berries music. I just find it sad that we had to "fight" by words just to realize it...Don't you think so ? that is what I blame. I do not know anyone on this list anymore (despite the ols subscribers as you noticed) because we don't share anything at all. But wait and see I will try to stay confident. Quick Poll : who would be interested to get my original boot ? Motivate me again, and we might have a deal. And let's hope this will make us forget the fights of last weeks. For those of you who have only been on the list a short time, I can tell you that this list was at one point VERY much alive. There was always a steady flow of posts. I'd go away for a weekend and come back to a couple hundred e-mails. Everyone was trading with everyone else, making great webpages, we had someone who put together a cranberries newsletter for awhile which we all contributed to, magazine articles were often posted, info on boots, we all helped each other in locating great, hard to find material. Francois in fact helped me locate several items that I simply wouldn't have in my collection if it wern't for him. The bickering was also kept at a minimum. We had a trouble maker or two from time to time but the list was a community. I was personally disgusted by the attack on Francois. What was THAT all about? I was prepared to make a post but I simply decided it wasn't worth my energy and Francois fought his own battle quite well. I don't understand the arguements about who here is a "real" fan and who is not? Does it really matter? We're all here for the same reason arn't we. I don't care if you have every item the cranberries have ever released and live next to Dolores or if you've only ever heard their music on the radio. This list is a vehicle that should be used to inform and communicate. I have a video project which has been placed on hold for various reasons. I think this might be a good time to return to it. I've collected interviews, TV appearences, live footage, videos etc. If any one has anything to contribute please let me know. Maybe a few of you out there could get together and do a newsletter? Something thats either mailed out to everyone (at a small expense to all who wish to recieve it) or possibly it will be completely web based? We were once commited to making this the very best of the cranberrie lists. Alex, thanx for taking the time and trouble to reconsider and question the certain things. That's what sometimes makes me think differently on something I considered normal for over five years. Only then discoveries can be made. I'm happy this list seems quite of a unity again, and therefore I'll help Francois out with thnigs he might be needing. Francois, we'll talk about that in a private mail later, ok? I have some pretty rare stuff laying around as well, I might be in for some digging, (although back then I sent it all to Francois) and contribute to Francois' or who-ever's idea. Nawwar" Subject: %Cran: a question to ask yourselves as I was reading the last couple of questions, I thought about a certain issue that I don't recall has been mentioned in the past 3 years of being on this list. the question to ask yourselves is: How do you view The Cranberries? In other words, if you had to describe The Cranberries' music or even the band itself (to someone who's never heard of them), what would u say? I found this very interesting. Someone described their music as moody and depressing. another person said they wouldn't be happy if there were happy songs (ironic-i know) so how do feel when you listen to the cranberries? hyper, depressed, or what? I can say that personally when I'm hyper, i listen to 'jumpy' music that makes me wanna dance. When i'm really mad about something, i might listen to Nirvana or Bush. But when i listen to The Cranberries, i want to listen to comforting, soft music (from teh first and sometimes second album. However, if I have lotsa energy, I'd listen to "Salvation" or "I Just Shot John Lennon" (the 3rd album for new fans) and probably "Zombie". How do I picture The Cranberries? well, that's hard to answer (makes u think, eh?) I'd have to say meaningful true music with amazing deep lyrics. The music is pure, unique and original. Some songs represent life experiences with its lyrics. This is when I realize that I truly love their music and that's what has kept me a fan for all these years, even without an album for about 3 years. This is how i see the cranberries. Now let's listen to what you all have to say. ps.- one thing I have to add is that I disagree with the person who said the music is depressing. I have depression(not severe- just moderate) and listening to the Cranberries actually makes me feel abit better. It doesn't make me feel worse. maybe it's different for you but i would say that it's definately not depressng music to me - --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Ridiculous Thoughts Mailing List Send posts to : cranlist@smoe.org Send unsubscribe requests to: cranlist-request@smoe.org Put "unsubscribe" in the BODY of the message.
