Firstly, everyone should be allowed to say what they want, and I believe if Saskia put view like that up on a cran list then she has to expect some flack. In regards to people who joined the list after TTFD was released, they may not necessarily have joined the list because of ttfd but because they didn't have the internet before that time, or they hadn't heard of this list, so if you read something a new person has said on the list and you don't agree with them, don't think you automatically have the correct opinion and that other person doesn't. I, for example only joined the list something like 2 years ago, or even less, I cant remember, but I've been a cranberry buff since Uncertain. -pippin - --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Ridiculous Thoughts Mailing List Send posts to : cranlist@smoe.org Send unsubscribe requests to: cranlist-request@smoe.org Put "unsubscribe" in the BODY of the message. I didn't ATTACK his english, I was merely pointing out, that his lack of understanding of the english language led him to believe that someone was bagging REM when, in fact, there were simply using REM as an example of a band that plays melancholic music. 3. I can spot the trend that the cranberries are making happier music, and no I don't particularly like happy music, but what's your point bucko? My point is that the cranberries are being attacked over a trivial matter and I won't stand for it. > Being a true and real fan also means respecting other people's opinion, and > accepting it as it is, not blindly follow your leader and on the way flame > every opponent. No it doesn't, what bullshit. I don't have a leader, I lead myself, and i don't see fellow, cranlisters, as opponents, if I, deep in my heart believed the terrible things some people have lately being saying about the cranberries, I'd voice my opinion too. >I listened to the new album for three times now, what new album? Hey, don't blame others, new subscribers or anything for lack of deep topic discussion. We're all just victims of circumstances right now. THere's nothing to talk about, cos the berries aren't doing much. Maybe you've already discussed all there is to discuss at this point, but don't make new subscribers feel like crap because they aren't discussing the things you want to read. That's no way to progress the list and make it bigger. & I think it would be good for the list to grow really big even if you don't get all your precious little eclectic discussions with two or three fans. I sounded weird to most of you when I said that I was > quite worry about the fact that the new Cranberries sound > should be "happy". Well , after all your comments, I still mean it. I'd like to add that when some friends of the Cranberries' heard the demo tapes the band recorded in late 97, they thought the music reminded them of the first album. Yes, Dreams is a happy song, and Pretty, I Will Always, Dreaming My Dreams, Salvation, Forever Yellow Skies, Will You Remember, those are songs that aren't directly sad or melancholic. The Rebels is a kick-ass song, like Dolores puts it (that was my favorite song the first time I heard TTFD), and the Cranberries are such super artists etc. so I'm just convinced their new album will do me good!! I think a more happy album has been in the air, Dolores writes songs with her heart. And you don't necessarily need melancholic songs in order to feel better about your life. Light tones and humour can meet that demand too, (though humour can be quite controversial). So we'll just have to wait and see... Isn't that exciting! I'm just thrilled... Personally, I'm shocked and I think it's qutie ironic to see that an inspiring message about a "happier album" can be received and made out so pessimistically. I'm not saying that everyone has to find the message inspiring, but I don't see any reason for being prejudiced, baiassed, narrow-minded... Dolores wrote "Free To Decide" to express her despise of the media that can't always seem to accept her for who she is and for what she does. There's a line that goes: "To hell with what you're thinking, to hell with your narrow mind". As I've been reading several messages on this list with such censorious, ungrateful journalistic tendencies, I've felt she actually speaks to some of her own 'fanatics'. It's not a fair attitude, and it's even worse that it comes before we hardly know anything about the realities of the forthcoming album. If you try to describe an album to a journalist in 2 minutes, you've just got to generalize, ONE word would never cover the whole album. Like, what single word would you use for the three first albums - I'd be happy to get a lot of suggestions, and I'm positive that the personal understandings of the albums would vary quite a lot. Fergal said 'happier', Dolores said 'bizarre'. I don't quite see a clear parallell there. Frankly, the album sounds quite interesting as far as what the scarce report we just got says. And the Cranberries are too diverse for a one-word-description, anyway, we all know that. Get your expectations down on earth, and I'm convinced you'll be positively surprised by the Cranberries' new product! - -- Simon Dankel, webmaster of The Cranberries Land: http://home.sol.no/~gdankel/ - --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Ridiculous Thoughts Mailing List Send posts to : cranlist@smoe.org Send unsubscribe requests to: cranlist-request@smoe.org Put "unsubscribe" in the BODY of the message. Who are we to judge him? If he thinks different, it doesn't give us the right to cry "shut up!" Actually, his message makes me think. Sometimes thinking is a useful thing, isn't it? Hey everybody, just close your eyes and ask yourself a question: do you still love the Cranberries or you're just used to be loving them? We have a proverb in my country: "we don't value what we have, and cry when we lose it", so try to imagine your life without their music, look into your own mind and answer: are they still there? DO YOU LOVE THEM? If anybody cares about *my* answer: I do. I can't say if I'll be loving them after 10, 20, 30 years... only time can tell. Damn, I don't even know if I'll be able to stay alive for so long! But I can't imagine how I could give them up. I'm still the same guy whose heart starts beating harder when he hears their music. Of course, I listen to other music pretty often, but I always return to the Cranberries. It's like returning home. It's like returning to the family. Someone posted here that he doesn't care what the Cranberries play since he loves them, and someone else posted that he hasn't get it (sorry, I forgot the names)... I probably understood what he wanted to say. One of our old rock musicians said: "the audience will forgive you anything for the honesty in your songs". I believe that *anything* they play has the print of their talent and personality, and it makes their music sound so magic. They could even make a good thing of a rap song! (sorry to all rap lovers here :) ) Francois' message made me depressed, but it's *my* problem, not *his*. I always feel pissed off when I try to get somebody into the Cranberries and he (or she) says "I don't like that music", but it's also *my own* problem. Somebody loves the Berries, and somebody don't see them like he used to... "Come to the conclusion baby, your love has died..." Sometimes it happens. It didn't happen to me, but (I repeat) it doesn't give me the right to judge other's thoughts and feelings. Especially feelings of Francois, who, as I heard, did many good for the other fans. He's free to decide, don't you think so? When he said about burning a new flame I believe he didn't mean the flame of war... The mournful sight of my brothers-in-fans shooting each other doesn't make me happy. Does it have to be so cold in Ridiculous Thoughts mailing list?..
