Well, I don't speak so very often on this list, but now I'm truly disappointed. I read Francois' mail, and he put it very clearly, stating exactly what many who were there the first moments feel now. I'm not talking about the explosive amount of members who joined this list after TTFD was released, you guys should shut up, Francois was addressing fans of the first minutes, people who have following the berries since Linger came out and way before that. Honestly, I had expected a different reaction, a more adult one. Attacking Francois because his english isn't that good? Because he expressed what deep down in his heart he is feeling for already three years? Because you're so superficial you cannot spot a trend, an evolution? Because you like happy music and someone else doesn't? Being a true and real fan also means respecting other people's opinion, and accepting it as it is, not blindly follow your leader and on the way flame every opponent. I listened to the new album for three times now, and I must say it is different indeed, but for me (and hey, I speak for myself here) a reason to just live on, playing my Björk, Goldie, Stina Nordenstam, The Sundays, ... records, as I did the last three years. I always needed an artist to touch my heart, to be enormously honest about himself, and his lyrics. I couldn't find that with the berries anymore, so I looked for alternatives and found them. Meanwhile the berries were kept in sight but nothing more ... A final point: don't ever tell someone what to think, he has a reason for doing so. Instead of attacking the person, **ask yourself** if he has reason to think so. If so, then agree, if not, then make up your mind, disagree and walk away from it. But flaming someone because he says what he feels, hey you know better ... Perhaps they are frightened at the prospect of losing their favorite band, I dunno...but don't flame them off the list. Myself, I've been listening to the Cranberries less and less this past two years. But I know they are still my favorite band. My room is plastered with posters and albums, my locker has pictures in it, all my friends laugh when I go to the cranberries section first when I go into a cd store. They are my favorite band, but I've stopped listening...of course a new cd, a new single, or even another bootleg (if I could find one I don't have! :/) would probably change it. Okay, I've gone on a tangent and it's way to early in the morning to try to sound reasonable. I did wanna say something cool I came across (well, I think it's cool) There's this band I really like called Letters To Cleo, and anyways, they just released their first EP...I guess it's the equivilent of Uncertain to this band, and along on the cd they have some rare tracks. I think the cranberries should do this. But that's just a dim wish. Yup, It's time for me to stretch my legs and stand up a bit and air out my stagnant mouth. Please pass me the airsickness bag, I believe I have some secretions that need expelling..... BUT, I DID see Dolores and Fergal(Feargal..Furgel..did we ever settle that?) service an award next to what I can only describe as Grace Jones with a hormone problem. It was great to see these kids back in action and in the lime light and it is none too soon that they have arrived, as I have seen a deplorable lack of ingenuity in supposed "musicians." Let's review(Hey, You've Got Mail is playing on my Tv and Dreams is being used to promote the album. That alone gets Two Thumbs Up! I was dragged to see it against every rational argument I had, BUT as we all know, it's impossible to get away from those who'd rather see crap and be sedated, than those who'd rather see Monument Ave. with Denis Leary, which was deeply touching. I'm getting off course, so let me focus. Breathe....Auuummm....Auuummmm), shall we? In the light of a new Cranberries release, we all need to go back into the record stores where we once went a few years ago and you may find that it is a place that is riddled with scary and freakish releases by bands that well, suck. Ok. The quick nitty gritty of my argument is this: there are those that belong to a special club where all you need to get in is to sing more horribly than Leonard Niemoy doing Pavorotti. This system, which Americans seem to perpetuate extremely well, will help you to dicern between what is good and what is pure schlock and will help you to make better decisions in buying your music: 1) Will you remember this band after six months? (Let's take a look at Semisonic, Fastball, etc...) You hear them once and then you end up being put out for 13.99 for an CD better used for a compact mirror. 2) Can you name the second single they released? Quick, what's Fastball's second single. BZZZZZ! Hence, keep that money and buy yourself a double pepperoni and know that the satisfaction you get from that steamy pie is hundreds of more gratifying than the musical butt steak from that band. 3) Do you have to pay more than 20 for a ticket to see them? Lynch them for just having the brass ta-ta's for trying to slip that past you. 4) Is their album riddeld with orchestras that wern't part of the band when they began? I hate this more than anything. Hey, I've got an idea, I know we are only 4 strong, but let's get some volin players and oboeists and a brass section and....THRPTH! Let's check our ego's at the door, k? Keep the local high school's out the album. 5) Has their album been in Best Buy/Circut City Ads as a HOT SELLER! for more than 3 weeks? Later I'll let you know of some quick antidotes to help ease the pain of all the poisoned Backstreet Boy, Spice Girl, Manson, Master P and any other big dollar produced albums out there. Well, I know it seems like an angry letter, but I am happy to be communicating with sensitive people like you who either share a similar view or who are vying for postion at the Puff Daddy concert coming soon to your town.... :) Thinking of you, Chris P.s- Cranberries. I think not Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit To everybody, You're all free to like or dislike The Cranberries, and as Paul said, anyone who has changed their musical taste can unsubscribe at any time. What I don't understand is why you have to listen to the Cranberries once a day, or once a month, or with any given frequency, to like their music. In my experience, if I listen to the same music every day, I'll end up really saturated, however good it is. Besides, if I had to listen to all the music I really like once a day, I would have to quit sleeping, eating and studying, and still it would take me over 24 hours. Personally, I've had periods in which I listen to the berries all day long, and then maybe for a couple of months I don't listen to anything. And that has happened to me with avery single band I like. I guess as we live different situations, our sensitivity changes and we need to listen to different kinds of music. As for the question of style, I've already bought EEIDISWCW, NNTA and TTFD. If they're going to repeat themselves then why would I want to buy their new work? I hope they explore new sounds and rythms, as that would made them much richer artists. Having said this, I think it's really stupid to give an opinion on something nobody knows. I mean, if we're saying this now, withOUT having listened to any of the new songs, I think I'll have to arrange for extra server space in my e-mail account for Jan-Mar 1999. Again you ll have to go through my own poor babling... This is off topic so pass your way or just read the whole damn thing.... Well. My last mail made things happened on this list finally. That is a good point. The bad one is that my aim was not at all to send a letter just to ask Greg ( Hi there! Never forget this guy ! I am sure most of you don't even know he is paying for us all... At least I do) to close the list as Saskia suggested. Never. No way. Though I do appreciate your comments on my views, Saskia, anyway. I was just myself. I did not think I would bore some others with my post. Coming back to the point. The berries. and The List. The "Ridiculous thoughts" list or the ridiculous list ? What piss me off is what this list has become. Just a piece of poor-reading letters that I use to send directly to the trash. What about the people I use to appreciate. And Rannie, Little, our wonderfull Greg, Suzy and Tim (sorry to have convinced you AGAIN to come back on this list Timmy ) I am asking you: Where are all these great people I use to make free copies of my rare stuff with ? Where are those posts which expressed genuine deep opinions which were so cool to share with others ? Where are all the great things gone ? This list had a spirit, it was a place were people never used to shout "FUCK YOU" to another subscriber's head in the first place because we used to DISCUSS our opinion and we all knew what I call "respect", the only word which made sense, to everyone by that time, since we were here to share our views with a common reference : our cherish irish band, which was NEVER forgotten. There was NO NEED TO ARGUE.... Well, sorry that was an easy one ! May be you don't appreciate my sense of humour either. Tolerance is just something that you have... or not. I can't blame it on you. There is no point to say that I am a real or true fan and I dont want to start this never ending thread...and please just forget my post because we all know or see this discussion does not lead anywhere. Little and Suzy, once again you are right. I wish I was as wise as you are. Saskia was right too in my case : "It hurts to admit you don't love them like you used to anymore ". Forgive me to have said what I was thinking. I just thought I was allowed to. Like on the good old days of this list. This was not a "ridiculous thought" as we know them. It was just "ridiculous" from me to criticize something I have never listened to. I am just 27. Still learning.... But I have a good bias by now,I just wanted to point it. Interesting to know I am not alone to feel this. You remember when we used to receive at least 100 mails a day because of the problem of majordomo who booted all the time and send 5 copies of each mail, well it never really prevent us to discuss some great topics, I wish it could happen today, just to see who would be fool enough to stay... I guess I would still be there anyway. This list is part of my life somehow. Now I will wait silently until January for the single. But then I will judge and tell openly what I think. For everyone who was pissed off , sorry to have made some noise in your good old and quiet world...I will retire, at least for this week end, in the cold peace of my quiet and cold but still enjoyable scandinavian winter. Last, about my way of speaking English ( or writting it , which would definitely suit better here ) . Thanks Tim for this one but I will defend myself. I am sorry guys, after all I am just french....The critic about REM may not have been clearly stated, or may be I didn't catch it at all but it was more than suggested IMO. To tell the truth I don't give a fucking damn about what you are thinking about my english. This did not keep me from leaving my country and make my own living somewhere else, working daily with another language ( swedish actually ) . Are you ready to do that ? I am proud I did and succeeded. I may not be able to write such a good english, but at least I can speak 4 languages good enough to make me understood and quite well, what about you ? Mr Cranberry aka Pippin ...Next time you go to France. I just wish you will be able to find a guy like me to babble some English with... Otherwise just a piece of advice : don't ever go there, you would be quite bored very soon ! Better : just take a friend (Karl, for instance, who seem to share some of your views. You could speak on these bloody fucking french who can't speak a word of English and dare to post on the NET) ! Sorry to bother you with trying express myself. I was expecting you to try to pay attention to the meaning of my babling, not the language related mistakes. Now I know I won't expect anything from you anytime soon. Sorry for another off- Topic : Karl wrote about Tim >> Hmmm....who do you think you are? >I won't go into this one ;) Well, Karl you burn yourself with this one. You wouldn't want to know about it all anyway...Let's say at least he was close enough to our fellow berries (and when I say CLOSE I mean CLOSE) at some times to be to us all, Old subscribers an unvaluable source of knowledge. Respect. And Thanks Tim. Always. As usual. I Get back to you soon. I am away this week end, may be on sunday. Now it s just too late. I was just taking some stuff at my job's place and making my way home and checked my mail box. 2 AM. Hope my english still make senses to some after some beers... Cheers.
