I'm Miguel Solana as you may have noticed, I live in Cuernavaca Mexico, a city about 45 minutes away from Mexico city, I'm 17 years old, and soon will be 18, I'm finish high school, and I'm looking foward to studying Actuarial Sc. I'm a music freak in a way, I love all the female voices, from things like Diamanda Galas to The cocteau twins, mazzy starr, lisa gerrard, heather nova (of course) mimi goese, bel canto, tori amos, sarah mclachlan, ani difranco, patti smith, chantal kreviazuk and many others but just too many to mention. Another of my passions is cinema, and guess my favourite director is Wim Wenders, and I really like independent films... I discovered the berrie's music during a trip in the states, while I was in the car, a radion station called magic was playing a lot Dreams, I inmediatly got hooked by Dolore's voice, so when I came back to Mexico I started searching for their music, and the rest is history... Guess, it's enough from myself Good luck to everybody Miguel - --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Ridiculous Thoughts Mailing List Send posts to : cranlist@smoe.org Send unsubscribe requests to: cranlist-request@smoe.org Put "unsubscribe" in the BODY of the message. Okay, I guess I'll introduce myself now. My name is Angela, as you can probably guess from my email address. I live in Auckland, New Zealand, I'm 18 years old and I've just finished my first year at university (I still have some exams to do, but no more lectures.) I've studied mostly mathematics this year but next year I might do some languages, as I love learning languages and linguistics and stuff about as much as I like maths - - I do a lot of creative writing, too, and some programming. I'm not sure whether I'll major in mathematics or Japanese. Anyway, you can read all about that on my homepage, http://lazer.gen.nz/angela. It doesn't look too great at the moment but it's going to be updated as soon as I get my scanner working... I've redesigned the page but I'm not going to put it on the web until I've scanned the picture that goes with it. A friend and I are going to start up a cool website in a few weeks along with some software we've written, (it's not cran-related, but it's going to be really fun... I won't say any more at this stage) so I haven't had a lot of time for much else lately. Anyway, this is a music list so let's discuss music... I listen to a lot of music these days, since I finally have a computer with a CD ROM so I listen to CDs through earphones most of the time while I'm working. Apart from Cranberries, I have CDs by Sinead O'Connor, Shania Twain and Alanis Morissette (although that CD is trapped inside a broken stereo at the moment.) There are other artists I like but I haven't bought their CDs. I don't like to spend much money on music so I don't have a huge variety... I probably have about five times as many Cran CDs than I have others. I first heard the Cranberries when EEIDISWCW was being advertised on TV... all I hear was 'do you have to, do you have to let it Linger." I thought, 'hey, that sounds really cool!' but I actually thought they were quite an old band or something and were supposed to appeal to older people, and besides, at the time I'd never spent any money on music in my life, so of course I didn't buy a CD just from hearing 12 words on TV. Then when I was about 15 some people in one of my classes at school were always listening to NNTA, and what I heard sounded pretty good, so I asked my sister to dub her copy of NNTA for me... that dub, believe it or not, was the first tape of music I'd ever had that wasn't recorded off the radio. I listened to it heaps. When TTFD came out I got a dub of that (I still didn't want to spend money on music.) A friend said they were going to buy me TTFD on CD for my birthday, so I asked if he could buy me EEIDISWCW instead... and he did. That was the first CD I'd ever owned. Anyway, the best way to get obsessed with something is to join a mailing list about it, so of course once I discovered this list I got into the crans enough to actually buy the other CDs... actually I only bought TTFD because it came with a bonus live disc and a T-shirt and it was cheaper than normal anyway - - but after that I figured that since NNTA was (and still is) my favourite album, so I'd better actually buy it. Anyway, you don't want to know when I bought every single CD... there's a list of the cran stuff I own at http://lazer.gen.nz/angela/cran.html. Angela Brett, who wonders what to put on this line now. My name is Johannes Schmidt, I'm a guy (I normally wouldn't point this out, but in the English speaking world, my name isn't all that common... translated it's actually just "John Smith"), and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I was born in Germany (hence the name), but when I was 7 I moved to the US, and when I was 9 I came to Oz. I'm currently in the 10th grade at high school (3 more weeks of classes, then exams, and then summer vacation --yey!). I'm quite involved musically; I play guitar (acoustic and electric), I sing (proper singing, though I don't mind yelling the occasional Metallica classic) and I play mandolin (inspired mainly by REM, but also by "Joe"). I play guitars/mandolin and sing in a band currently known as "Rambles" (http://rambles.netek.com.au), but we haven't really rehearsed for almost a year, and I also sing in a covers band at school, we mainly do Metallica (I'm trying to stick to slower songs like Unforgiven --I have too much trouble with Enter Sandman!). Yesterday I joined the school choir (simply because I have nothing better to do at lunch time on a Friday, and the female/male ratio is currently about 5:1, so I thought I'd help make the balance. The other thing I waste my time on is computers (hence, it's midnight and I'm writing email). My main pastime with computers is web design, and I have a job at my school doing just that. I have some Cranberries sites (Hollywood, CranNet, and CranRadio), but they haven't been updated for quite a while, because I'm having some server problems, which are yet to be resolved. The Cranberries first got my attention with Zombie. My brother recorded it from the radio, and kept listening to it... I absolutely hated it! After about a week of constantly hearing it from his room, I went out and bought the single. Soon, I got NNTA copied on tape from a friend, and within a few months I had both of the albums (this was pre-TTFD). At this stage I have a collection of over 30 CDs, 3 Records, 5 Songbooks, shirts, posters, books, keychains, bla bla bla. I have one or two rarities as well... Oh yeah, and at this stage the brother mentioned above can't stand the berries (ironic, huh?) Well, I've crapped on long enough now... hope I haven't bored anyone too much. My name's Alex, a.k.a. Cranguy, and, um... I like the Berries!! And only the berries... I used to like Oasis about a year and a half ago, but not anymore. It was my brother who introduced me to the Berries... Yes, I'm living proof that at least SOMEBODY became a fan during TTFD. I'm not sure what song got me hooked, but i think it was When You're Gone. And I don't think TTFD was a disaster, was most people do... Forever Yellow Skies is my favorite cransong. I have pretty much every availabe song out there. This is what I don't have: - -Carosuel (that's pretty easy to get) - -Nothing Left at All '91 - -Alone - -Bread and Wine - -The Fall - -The Mission - -Gringo - -Hot Dog Neddy - -I Pray And some others... If anybody has any of these, besides Carosuel, please write me! Well, enough of my blabbering... I have my own website, The Cranberries Gazette, which is a page dedicated to news of the berries. I also help with CranberriesOlogist, which is all questions about the Cranberries. Well, my name is Matias and I am a 23 yr. old University Student from Argentina. I am recently posted in this list (about two weeks) . I was first dissapointed because there was no post (and this is my first mailing list) to read but now it seems to work OK. My story with The Cranberries is a little long to explain because it depends on all the other bands that I have been listening before... Of the fisrt bands that I've listened with attention I can remember the Sexpistols, the Clash, Dead Kennedys GBH , The Ramones and stuff like that as well as some local bands but I'm not going to write about that for now. That was when I was 12 years years old and entering to High School. Later (when I was about 16) I was more interested in HC bands because of the straight edge discipline because I liked the punk bands but I always thought that self-destruction was not a good idea for living. From this period I count Bad Religion,NOFX, Shelter,Biohazard and of course Minor Treat as well as many other international and local bands. In this period I bought myself my first electric bass and play with some friends in a band called ICQ (wich has nothing to do with the Internet program but with an electronic term related with the transistors) this was an amateur just for fan and I'm still an amateur player (i like to play some bass lines from the first EEIDISWCW album that are very nice to play). A period later (and please let me resume the story) I first saw the cranberries in MUCHMUSIC(a Canadian MTV like cable channel) I was fascinated with the band (I think they put the videos Linger and Zombie) to weeks later I bought the NoNeedToArgue CD that has fortunately come with the lyrics and listened to it again and again. The second album that I got was the EEIDISWCW who I personaly think it's the one I like much because it has a combination of relatively simple sounds, but that can't be found anyware else and think that has contributed to the diferentation of the band from the rest. And then of course got the To The Faithful... album which is more experimental I think but still a great Album. Well, I think it was much for one E-Mail, thats all for now... :-) Walko ================================================== Un E-Mail de: Matias G. My name is Asle Andersen, I am a 16 year old boy, and I live in a small town in Norway called Bode. I first noticed the Cranberries when I heard "I Can't Be With You". I just loved that song, and I still do. Since I wasn't into music at that time, I borrowed the "No Need To Argue" CD from my brother (who now hates the 'berries), and listened a bit to "Zombie" and "I can't be with you". But I didn't become a fan until TTFD was released. I had heard Salvation, and wondered if I should buy the CD, and when I heard "Free To Decide" I just ran to the store to buy it. After I had listened to the TTFD CD for some time I bought the other two CDs. Then, when I got Internet as a christmaspresent, I downloaded mp3s and bought singles and T-shirt, books, etc. Now I'm just waiting for new stuff, and waiting for the Nobel Peace Prize Concert on the 11th of December, because I'm going to that concert. Hope they'll do at least two new songs, and maybe the third will be "Warchild" or "So Cold In Ireland" or something like that. Well, bye for now!
