Subject: [chakram-refugees] O'Connor short -- The Usual

The Little Rock Film Festival over the weekend showed several  blocks
of short films.  One block included The Usual  (2014), produced and
starring Renee O'Connor.  The eight-minute film was  somewhat padded
by an opening which was too long and talky about the  Depression, with
newsreel footage.  During the Depression wealthy Mr. and  Mrs. Ford go 
out to a fancy restaurant.  Outside  the place a homeless man and woman
beg from them.  Ford wants to help them but his wife  (O'Connor) says that
he is only encouraging beggars.  In the restaurant they  order "the usual."
When Jimmy the waiter brings the meal he unfortunately spills  a glass of
wine on Mr. Ford.  Ford is ready to forget it but Mrs.  Ford demands that he
be fired.  A while later Jimmy still has his job  (unexplained).  As he 
brings
some garbage out to the alley by the restaurant, he finds Mr.  and Mrs.
Ford in the alley.  They have lost all their money in the  crash.  They ask
to buy bread with their last money.  He brings out a  table and serves
them "the usual."
 
I would say Renee O'Connor does better as an actress than as a  producer
in this short.  Her villainess is very good but the short  (which is on 
Internet
Movie Database) is pretty simple and obvious.
