Kiwis on the list? Anybody? Oooh, pick me. ;) I don't really know. No use writing to the cops directly, it'd only encourage them. Unfortunately New Plymouth has a large natural gas industry and Lucy's a JAFA (Just Another F**kin Aucklander) so she may not have much local support (think of it like a New Yorker in Texas. Well, maybe not quite that bad, they don't lynch liberals in New Plymouth). Hopefully the judge will see through this attempt to overcook the charges and give the cops the treatment they deserve - thrown out. Fortunately most of our judges tend to be fairly independent minded and won't be pressured. (Judges here are not elected, they're appointed from within the legal profession, and can only be dismissed for serious offences). NZ's only sensitive point is its 'clean green' image as it affects tourism and agricultural exports. If there's some sort of NZ trade delegation or tourism outfit in the US you could point out to them that those over-the-top charges appear to be intended to intimidate anyone who might want to stand up for the environment and it's not going to do NZ's tourism / produce any good. While a judge would adamantly refuse to be influenced, the crown prosecutor's office is a different matter and they might well be told by their government bosses that headlines of "Kiwi movie star's career destroyed for defending the environment - 'clean green' image a sham" would draw more attention than the original protest and are not a good move. Sorry I can't be more specific. cr On Thursday 01 March 2012 18:50:54 HJ Hewitt wrote: > In the TV programs we see here (which I'm always looking for), N.Z. > is portrayed as trying to be a model as the world's "greenest" > nation.
