Subject: [chakram-refugees] Xena in Colombiana

Colombiana is an action film co-written by Luc  Besson.  A young
Colombian girl, daughter of a drug gangster, flees to the U.S.  after 
her parents are murdered and grows up to be a meticulous  assassin.
It is a much-inferior rethinking of Besson's La Femme  Nikita, about
another girl turned assassin.  It even has a scene which  directly quotes
the old film, in which an apparently helpless girl suddenly  stabs a
threatening man in the hand, pinning his hand to a  table.
 
The child heroine is briefly seen reading a Xena  comic book.  She
later said that she had wanted to be "Xena, the Warrior  Princess
but now I want to be a killer."  That may seem like a  pretty fine
distinction, but her adult persona is more like  Callisto.
