Roush writes that Caprica "teases the brain, whereas Starz' garishly gruesome Spartacus: Blood and Sand is more likely to bash them out." He goes on to say of Caprica "so far, it's a bit dramatically anemic. Which makes it a far cry from Ben Hurt [spelling sic] -- I mean Spartacus, a bone-crunching, gore-spurting orgy of an unabashed "300" rip-off. I haven't seen this much elaborate and creative bloodletting since my last Itchy & Scratchy marathon. (I'll never forget that double leg amputation.) Lingering on the carnage in slo-mo and freeze-frame to approximate a (literally) graphic novel, Spartacus is derivative as entertainment and primitively pandering as a diverting spectacle of campy historical fiction. ... Bloodlust and just plain lust -- hello, you naughty Lucy Lawless, you -- battle it out for supremacy in a show that goes for the jugular and finds it every single time." I'm too old for this stuff. It's painful to think of the iconic Lawless in this. Boeotian ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
