Maybe it's because Rose McIver plays Daphne/Xena straight, and the writers have written it that way, with absolutely no cute-kid moments. So it works. Seeds of Faith was an ep with some good bits in it, mostly involving Ares and Callisto, but I have the feeling it could have been better. Ironically, considering Eli's message, Xena is playing for keeps fighting Ares' army on the bridge - she's really killing those guys dead. Although just a shadow of her former self, I did enjoy Callisto's appearances as the Angel. Could have done without Eli, though, I cheered Ares when he killed him. I also cheered when Gabby speared Ares' henchman in the evil-looking hat. Serve him right for such appalling dress sense. One weird development was the Dagger of Helios, yet another Only Thing That Can Kill a God. (Somebody should make a list some time...) When Angel Callisto was saying how she cared about Gabs and Xena, and Xena suddenly demands that Callisto take her to the Dagger of Helios, I almost laughed at the incongruity of it. And the 'where did this come from all of sudden?' factor. Also, major YAXI compared with The Quest, the dagger itself was the wrong one (i.e. wiggly rather than just curved), and in The Quest it was the key to the ambrosia, no mention of it killing gods. As for Callisto being reincarnated as Xena's child, that was kinda bizarre - as Lucy said in the commentary, it probably sounded good on paper. Lucy also commented on the appearance of Eli and Callisto, they look like those Catholic religious postcards - I'd noticed that too, the resemblance was irresistible, no matter how much I tried to ignore it. Lyre, Lyre didn't impress me much - not my kind of music. Best thing about it (IMO) was Amoria - love that Amazon biker chick! Punch Lines likewise was passable without being impressive - again suffering from a shortage of Lucy/Xena, though Gabs and Aphrodite did their best. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
