It started with an excellent ep, Be Deviled, about which I have already raved on, but the only other ep worth mentioning (IMO) was City of the Dead, and that mainly because of Gabriella Larkin (Nefertiti) and Josephine Davison (Amen-Su). Josephine Davison was, of course, Artemis, and also Cleopatra in A&C hence, doubtless, the family resemblance with Amen-Su. (Now I just know that someone will point out that Nefertiti and her family were some old Egyptian dynasty while Cleo was Greek, so not related; but why let the facts get in the way of a good story?) Oh, and Rameses activates the Necronomicon by saying 'Klaatu Verata Niktu', famous in sci-fi circles, but also (Google tells me) what Ash (Bruce Campbell) said when he took the Necronomicon in Army of Darkness - I bet the writers had a good laugh when they put that in! A Wicked Good Time had some good bits in it - mainly to do with Katrina Browne as the witch Haleh. She brought some weight and credibility to the role, and again when she was possessed by the demon Niebros. I thought the episode was weakened by references to 'the Academy' from Young Herc - I just don't care for teenagers on screen that much. (Even when I was a teenager I didn't care for teenagers on screen, I always wanted to see 'proper grown-ups'). The finale, Full Circle, was another mixed bag. IT just didn't live up to expectations. It should have been good, with Zeus, Meg Foster as Hera, Ares, and the always decorative Kimberley Joseph as Nemesis. Unfortunately Nemesis' kid Evander was a slightly cute, rather naive kid. Nemesis herself had only a walk-on part. And the 'B' plot about the Titans attempting to destroy Olympus was just a distraction and could have been left out, I think. There should have been enough drama with Hera's rescue, her reconciliation with Zeus, regaining of memory, petrifying Zeus in revenge, and her remorse and reviving him so they could bring Evander back - that would have made a satisfying episode all by itself. As it is, there's just too much going on in the episode to really do justice to any one theme. Reminds me a bit of episodes of 'Alias', also written by Orci and Kurtzmann. (Unlike many Xenafans, I am usually tolerant of O&K, but I don't think this is one of their better efforts). The true Hercules finale was, of course, God Fearing Child over on Xena, where Hera and Zeus were much better treated. Even though they ended up dead. ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
