Heres a link to that poll where you could vote on how good you thought the picks the guy made were. http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/top-10-actresses-to-replace-angelina-jolie-as-lara-croft-tomb-raider I never heard of a number of these women, but I looked some up and then also read the blurbs under the picks. And it looks like all of these women are movie actors, or both movie and TV actors, not just TV actors. And almost all of them have already had roles in action movies. Which of course, Lucy has not done. Yet. Im not sure why you claim this list validates that Xena is a dead cult show when many other female cult figures are not on this list either. Since you say Lucy not being on this one guys personal pick list makes you think Xena is a dead cult show, then surely you must believe that all the other cult shows that dont have the female actors from them listed are also dead. So the lack of Gillian Anderson makes X-Files a dead cult show, and the lack of any of the women from Battlestar makes Battlestar a dead cult show, and the lack of any of the women from Stargate (and its derivatives) makes Stargate (and its derivatives) dead cult shows and the lack of Sarah Michelle Geller makes Buffy a dead cult show, and well, ad infinitum. I just dont buy that-its nonsense to me that this one guys opinion is so important and reveals the true cult status of female action hero shows on television. This list and this reviewer just does not have the same value to me that it does to you. Actually, what surprised me the most about this list was Dont replace Angelina was not an option on it. However, the fanboys and girls who posted comments were also surprised by that, so its a rather obvious missing choice. And heck, this is just one poll. And of course, we all know that an unscientific, voluntary online poll is meaningless anyway. BUT, since were talking about those, heres a link to another that closed within the last 2 weeks or so, from the New York Daily News. The question was, Who is your favorite female action star? http://tinyurl.com/ass4fd In a field of 15 women, a few of them really big name movie stars and all of them being action stars, some in both movies and television, Lucy came in first-by a mile. Lucy got 40% of the vote. This was more than double the next closest choice, Linda Hamilton who had 18%. Kate Beckinsale had 11% and nobody else even reached double digits. Angelina got 8% and next below her, even Sigourney only got 4%-to my great surprise, she only managed to tie with Milla Jovovich and Sarah Michelle Geller. Hell, Uma Thurman only got 2. Lucy just mopped up the floor with all of them. Speaking of fan oomph factors, I, along with hundreds of others, recently got back from the 14th anniversary of the Xena convention in L.A. Fourteen years since the show started, 8 years since the show left the air-and the conventions for it are still going strong. And even though its been off the air for years, (more years than it was on the air at this point), Xena is one of the very rare shows that still draws in hundreds of fans to a convention just for that show, year after year. Her memory is not only still fresh but strong enough to continue to draw them in. Including many brand new fans. Many other older shows, do still draw in fans, but most of them are included as panels (if even that), along with others in the big fan conventions like Dragon Com and Comic Con. But like Star Trek and Star Wars that still have the oomph to have conventions only celebrating that particular show, Xena conventions feature only Xena. And I absolutely believe that as long as Lucy keeps showing up at these cons, so will the fans. And of course, Xena is still being referenced in movies, in TV shows, in books and even in the real world of politics, as shorthand for a strong, tough woman. And of course, shes still (as far as I know, anyway) the ONLY pop cult figure that actual serious astronomers tried to name a planet after. Heres a very recent Xena mention in media regarding political figures. (And one comparison I think Lucy would approve of for once.) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bonnie-fuller/why-wimpy-david-brooks-in_b_173025.html I do believe that Xena will live forever. (Or at least as long as Western pop culture lives.) KT ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
