Miller" Subject: [chakram-refugees] Don't bet on me Kinda OT, and apropos of nothing very much.... Tonight a local NZ talent show happened to be on, and they were introducing one of the judges with their usual hyperbole as 'that great actress Miriama Smith' - at which I grumped (as I usually do) "Who's she?" I was about to follow it with "She's never been in Herc or Xena, anyway!" but my wife interrupted me. And what she said was "She was in Xena, with Cleopatra, she was the quiet one." And I said, with absolute certainty, 'No way, that was Josephine Davison', and if I was a betting man, I would have bet a hundred bucks on it. I should know better by now. My wife challenged me to get the DVD, but I checked the cast list instead. And so help me, I was right that Josephine Davison was Cleo - BUT - Miriama Smith was Shiana, Cleopatra's faithful servant. The irony is, Anthony & Cleo is one of my favourite S5 eps, and Shiana is one of my favourite characters in it, simply from the way she _is_ very quiet but - if I'd just assassinated Cleopatra - I don't think I'd want Shiana on my trail. I don't think Miriama Smith looks anything like Shiana, without that Egyptian hairstyle. But still, my wife (who is not a Xenafan, and has seen the episode with me maybe once) recognised her instantly. Score: Wife 1, cr 0. :( Conclusion: My memory for faces is terrible (which is maybe why I always recognise Marton Csokas by his voice, never by his looks). And my wife's memory for people is like an FBI databank. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Subject: Re: [chakram-refugees] Don't bet on me Ahhhh.... some Xenites talking on here again -- any action here is fine with me! I've sleuthed around on Google Earth off and on for the past year or two [how long had Google Earth been around now?] and always found myself trying to zoom in along the coastline looking for Bethells beach. Back then Bethells never came up on the search.. I thought I had found it because of the dark sand and dunes leading back from the shore. When Bethells finally did start coming up on a search I found I was right. It seems that someone a while back had told me [cr, was it you] that the property back from shore was being made into subdivisions and some stars or character names were being used as some of the street names. I still troll around there, but haven't seen any names I recognized. I'm glad the DVDs don't wear out like the VCRs used to or I'd be doing a lot of begging on here. I'm kinda curious on who is watching what.... I find myself always gravitating to S1-S3 the most. While the acting or cgi might not have been as great as later, I really liked the early character development. Mark in San Antonio, TX Ellie Moses wrote: > kicking what? and are you takin' names too?
