It touches on issues which came up during the early days of Xena -- tolerance by creators of fan activity using their characters and invented worlds. Apparently for Rowling the hot button issue is a fan seeking a profit from his work, based on her work. A not-or-profit web site is one thing. A For-profit publisher pushing to get in on the PROFIT, and indemnifying the author. Looks to me they knew it was not "fair use"! From a practical perspective, it's not possible to control the Internet. But somebody with printing presses and distribution channels is another thing. Good luck to Rowling.
