I go to the cons-and yes, they're smaller, but hell, they're still there, even though the show's been off the air for seven years. Very few shows become Con fodder. Even fewer last. X-Files don't got no con and that was a GREAT show~!! And I remember that the cons originally were "Hercules and Xena Conventions." That title turned into just "Xena Convention" even before Xena left the air I believe. Rob's Hercules is just one of many variations of the same theme. And this is what I believe will happen with Xena-there will be new shows, may be a movie about that character-just like we get endless retellings of Robin Hood, Zorro and Ebenezer Scrooge. Sadly, it looks like it will happen so far in the future that Lucy won't be playing the role. And I'll be boycotting the theater-probably will need a walker by then to stay upright, but I'll be there, protesting lack o' Lucy. The cons are also changing in that we have many more young men coming now-as I've said before, these are the young boys who used to watch Xena growing up and now have no problem with going to a con celebrating a woman. We're all now living in the fan world "Xena: Warrior Princess" changed. And just as an aside, I also beleive that Lucy's concerts have rejuvenated the cons. Because Lucy's concerts creates all fresh and new shared experinces for fans to see, enjoy, talk about, assess, analyse, etc. Lucy's official fan list has well over 2000 people on it. Renee's official list has over a thousand. And there is a HUGE percentage of totally new fans on Lucy's list. (I'm not on Renee's but I bet there's a lot fo crossover.) And many of the new fans are from Europe and beyond. The show is still being shown worldwide and is still attracting lots of attention and lots of new fans. And there are still lots of people on various mailing lists like this one- I'm still on about six-even if they're pretty quiet, they're still perking along. And that's also telling I think. And also (thank goodness I didn't start saying, "On the other hand" (I'd be beyond even Kali's limit by now...), Xena still gets mentions all the time in mass media, both in print and on screen. And gets listed lots of times on best show and greatest character lists. Lucy also still tops many lists as favorite whatever both in her Xena persona and as herself. Rob's stories, RJ's scripts and head writer functioning, and Lucy's portrayal of their creation have made Xena an absolutely iconic figure. I mean-how many other shows/characters make it to the Smithsonian? (Of course-she hasn't made it yet--the darn thing is still under renovation closure until the Fall.) I'm REALLY hoping Lucy will be there for that opening. How cool will that be? I'm sure it'll make the news. Maybe even real news, not just entertainment news or FOX news.
