Such a stict consensus like that is really unusual. And sure, unlike in piggy boy movies, women and girls have a huge range of responses to any situation. There was a whole flurry of posts on various Xena lists when it was announced that Lucy would be in this movie. As always, there were some folks way at each end-some delighted she was going to be in one of the "Trip" movies, some horrified at the very thought. Probably most fans were somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately, a very few fans thought Lucy shouldn't have agreed to do it-I never understand that argument when it's applied to anybody. It's Lucy's life and Lucy's choices. Even if an actor makes a stinker movie, ANY kind of stinker movie, there's always some reason they decided to take the role. And we know why Lucy chose to take this role. At one of the 2007 cons, she was asked why she had done Eurotrip. She replied, "I was bored and feeling lonely and I wanted somebody to want me. There were fun people, there's camaraderie and I got to go to interesting places." I find that "I wanted somebody to want me" line sad and poignant. And so, yeah, her reasons sure make sense to me. After it aired, I think most people really enjoyed the life, vigor and humanity that Lucy brought even to a role in a piggy boy movie. I know I sure did. Some women even said they enjoyed a lot of the movie. I sure didn't. As I said, I caught it on HBO and of course, HBO endlessly repeats the movie. After my first viewing, I had ZERO desire to see any other part of it, but I had watched the clock and knew what time Lucy's scene occurred in the movie. And every single time it showed, I sat and watched just that scene. And I laughed out loud every time. And Lucy obviously had a lot of fun doing it, too, so I guess it > couldn't be *all* bad. She did-and of course the cast loved her, as her casts always do. I believe it was the boys who made this film who declared I think in the extras on the DVD, that "Lucy Lawless is the coolest human being we've ever met." Something we all knew for years. I found it very interesting that Katherine Heigl got involved in a controversy over another piggy boy movie, "Knocked Up". She gave an interview in the January issue of Vanity Fair. She said the movie was, "A little sexist. It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days. I'm playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you're portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie." And of course she's being crucified in blogs and in entertainment webpages for her comment. Just plug into Google, "Knocked up Katherine Sexist" and you get a HUGE raft of links on it. One typical example: http://www.celebritypwn.com/pwn/katherine_heigl/1975/ "After knocking the movie Knocked Up, in which she starred, as being "a little bit sexist" in a recent interview, Katherine Heigl has clarified to PEOPLE that it was the "best filming experience of my career." Even if Heigl believed the movie is sexist (which it probably is) why would you say it to the media when it made you a household name? Go with the flow." These mouthy, uppity women should just expose their bodies and just keep their damn opinions to themselves, by gum. KT Who didn't go see Knocked Up or Superbad either. And yeah, there are MANY worse SNL boy grads typical vehicles she could be in. I think this is a fantastic opportunity for her-and I am BEYOND delighted at the thought of her actually having a part in a real A list movie. Go LUCE! Such a stict consensus like that is really unusual. Yep. Everyone. Go figure. Well, to be honest, I was working at a veterinary clinic at the time with kind of a small staff; no more than ten people. Everytime we needed to edge around someone in tight quarters, we'd say, "Mi scusi, mi scusi," and crack up in laughter when we remembered the Italian pervo. And when we remembered the way he bent over in the corridor of the train car... (Perhaps I should have been offended by that character, since I'm half northern Italian? Nawww...) So you see, it wasn't just women who were being made fun of; I think everyone was fair game. Remember the soccer hooligans? And the "sausage fest" at the nude beach? Makes me laugh and cringe at the same time! >>And Lucy obviously had a lot of fun doing it, too, so I guess it couldn't be *all* bad. >She did-and of course the cast loved her, as her casts always do.
