It was me who found Lucy not so convincing as the damsel in distress. You used the term "reveal." I think it was the reveal that I found worrisome. Why did there need to be a reveal? Maybe it's just me, but I would have been more entertained if I had had no clue what Evelyn's true objective was before she started shooting. I've seen this reveal thing done on other shows from time to time--where a character is first presented as a sympathetic character but with just a little something "off." But to me this is one of those little tricks that loses its value after you've seen it done a couple of times. Whenever I see it now, it almost immediately triggers a "Oh, so that's the bad guy" reaction from me. But probably the reason I was so sensitive to it in this case was because I know Lucy's acting. If she was supposed to be a damsel in distress and nothing more, I know for sure and certain that I would not have been sitting there wondering why Evelyn seemed just a tad insincere. When she is fully "revealed" as the assassin, it does all fall into place. But still, I think of a "reveal" as kinda like a spoiler, and I would have preferred not to have been spoiled. Now, as for Evelyn the Assassin... When the weapons come out Lucy is obviously in her element. I believe I even saw a little trace of Xena in there and I couldn't take my eyes off of her for a second. I was also quite mesmerized by the scene where she was flirting with Michael and trying to lure him over to the dark side. If I had been in Michael's place I'm afraid the CPA would have been toast. I agree that Evelyn would have made a great recurring character. I wonder if the producer might be kicking himself right about now. XWPacolyte Cupid and Psyche... Antony and Cleopatra... Xena and Gabrielle. - -----Original Message----- Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2007 23:55:16 -0400 From: "Cheryl Ande" Subject: [chakram-refugees] Burn Notice Spoilers I just saw Burn Notice and I thought Lucy was quite good in this role. I disagree a little with those who said Lucy wasn't convincing as the damsel in distress. Actually I thought when you first see her see is very convincing but in each subsequent scenes involving her "damsel" seems less and less convincing and that was probably a well thought out reveal. At first the audience like Michael believes Evelyn story and is sympatric. When Michael meets her again on the beach she seems a little off - just a tad too flirty with Michael and the audience is now clued in that something is wrong and now suspicious. The next time we see Evelyn our suspicion are confirmed by Fiona who also sees through Evelyn's more obvious play acting and though she is not quite sure what's wrong she is upset that Michael has seemingly fallen for this woman who just a bit to sweet and vulnerable. Lucy has to be more obvious about being deceptive here so that Fiona doesn't just look like a jealous bitch - Fiona must be justified in disliking Evelyn. I thought it work out very well. Now when Lucy turns bad she if of course better. I liked take on the professional hit woman. Well dressed, sophisticated, casually cruel with just a touch of regret at the end. Nice. I however I do wish Evelyn could have escaped - she would have made nice returning nemesis for Michael to outwit form time to time. In fact I was surprised that such a skilled assassin wouldn't have back up plan just in case things went wrong ( I also though she should have been able to kill the CPA and Michael at the cabin but then no more Burn Notice). BTW isn't Lucy right handed-not left handed? It seemed to me that was a bit of a plot hole (she was holding the rifle in her left hand but it seemed awkward).
