I have no idea what the venue is like at Canal Street. I assume during a usual performance there is a cover charge and the drinks are expensive. In this case there is no cover. I think probably Lucy and Creations are renting the venue and the club gets the money for drinks. Creations and Lucy will probably cover the costs of stage hands, techs, the band and the back up singers. The techs and stagehands will probably be local and union. I suspect the band and singers will come in from California and will be provided transportation and lodging and along with their union pay. Lucy will be paid and Creations has to make a profit (it is called show business not show charity) and they have only three nights to do this. Yes you can go the Canal Room for $20 and see bands such as Booga Sugar, Rene Lopez and Naomi, etc. perhaps these a wildly popular performers and have the star power of Lucy Lawless but I doubt it. You get what you pay for $89 you get Lucy; for $20 you get Booga Sugar. As for the convention yes it's expensive but then again you don't know what the costs are therefore any discussion of fair or unfair con prices are mute. It costs Creations money for the venue, techs and talent. Lucy, Renee and any one who comes is paid - they are performers and they don't do this for free. I'm an accountant I don't count for free so why should they perform for free. Creations is a business and they have to make money or there are no cons. Let's face it the Xena cons don't attract the number attendees as Star Trek but the overheard for Xena and Star Trek are relatively the same so less people have to pay more to cover those costs. That's business. If any one can do it better we live in a free society - start your own convention company and see what happens. Thus ends the lesson and rant.
