Subject: Re: [chakram-refugees] Old fart Xena fan As another OFXF/HCNB I remember being amazed at finding others like me on the Internet and also totally being blown away by the generosity and helpfulness shown by offers of copying and mailing tapes to each other as we slowly formed this far-flung fanbase. I received an email from a long-lost Xenite who said she had not watched any of her tapes in years, had pulled one out and started watching. She said: "I forgot storylines, plots, characters :-( Very sad.... except that it was like watching them for the first time again ;-) " I told her that it was really getting older and having things be new again!! This is no longer "in the near future." Some movies and TV episodes (Battlestar Galatica, for example) can be purchased on iTunes and moved right onto one's iPod. For episodes only available on DVD, one just needs to convert the file to make it iPod accessible. I don't know the process for PC but for Mac there is a free downloadable program called HandBrake that will convert the files. Not fancy, doesn't copy all of the DVD screens, interactivity, etc. but converts each video segment as a separate file which works great for TV programs. Thus, such files shouldn't impact DVD sales at all but make your DVD purchase more usable when traveling, for example. Three cheers for new technology! Linda - -- Linda M. What I'm most excited about is the prospect of TV shows being presented totally online. No more being slave to the whims of network execs in order to keep a show alive ... just put it online! I, for one, would happily pay a subscription fee to be able to see things like, say, a second season of "Firefly", or the conclusion to the "Dark Angel" and "John Doe" series (both of which ended on cliffhangers before getting axed, dammit :P). - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
