Gives me much rage as a collector because I want to have them all, but numerous covers are VERY pricey and I actually settled on only three covers. There are FIVE covers for the VERY first issue (including the VERY RARE, limited to 525 prints foil cover - of which I have one. ;) - there are TWO pricey covers (the foil one and the B/W one), a photo cover and two comic covers. And the second issue has FOUR covers. Two comics, one photo and an inverted cover of one of the comic covers. Two covers are costly. After you get over that annoyance, let's talk issues: What I love: - - NICE ART! VERY nice art. The best art. ALL the characters are very well done and better than any other issue. Wonderfully drawn and coloured. - - The wide use of characters. Xena, Joxer, Auto, Ares, Zeus, Hades and Athena all in one issue (Athena has no speaking role) What sucked: - - Just WHERE the hell is this set? Gabrielle is dressed in her season three outfit with her staff, but Xena has her season five chakram. Xena is not preg and the gods are all alive. Auto is wearing his "King of Assassins" outfit. :S Callisto is dead, but apparently in hell (quoted from her) - which would mean end of season three, yet, at the same time, she's in Hades (stated by Hades). Clearly, not a lot of homework was done. There's giant holes in this thing. When the gods have to pick a champion, Ares says Xena, but is quickly swayed to pick a brute - say WHAT now? While Zeus is just a plain DUMB ass with his choice that makes NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sense at ALL (we all KNOW he'd pick Hercules). - - Is it any surprise I'm going to pick on the writing? LAAAME! And not even REMOTELY "Xena" or in character. Bottom line: - - Comes in 2nd place to prior series. Dark Horse still made the best Xena comics - - I personally will keep buying the series because the art is very nice and I enjoy drawing comic book art. The writing may improve - you never know. It's nice to have an option of something to read with new stories (I find fan fic just too impossible to look through anymore to find the rare gems). Course, you'd be better off reading the works of Pam Wilson. :) BATTLE ON XENA! I think Lucy's singing is, at least, very good, and >extremely pleasant to listen to. She's glorious in Bitter Suite. - --Well, I'd disagree, too. I think LL can sing to a certain extent, but that's not her forte. Goes back to "Is she a professional singer?" and I'd say she's not. We also have to remember in the studio, there are a variety of electronic "patches" that can be made when someone's not loud enough or doesn't have the right "oomph". Who knows what was done on Bitter Suite? I know it wasn't "live" singing, though, as she's doing on Celebrity Duets. Speaking of which, I watched Thurs. and Fri. nights, and it was *baaad*.....;P LL wasn't as bad as Carly or Cheech, but IMO she wasn't as good as Jai or Alfonse. On Thurs. she was visibly nervous and was a little too thin in her voice, and then on Fri. I *really* didn't like the fact that she was using her sex to sell the song, and not her singing. I mean, what *was* that go-go outfit with the bare back about, anyway??! She really didn't quite hit all the notes on either night, and then she had the cheek to tell David Foster to "try and watch" her once in a while (meaning her singing wasn't selling the song, so he should watch her body more?)! I think David was giving her an honest opinion, and saying her singing wasn't carrying the day, so she should concentrate on that, rather than the calisthenics she was doing. ;P I mean, these judges are all professional singers/producers, so it would behoove the performers to _listen_ to them, rather than get defensive (as Cheech did by thumbing his nose at Foster). The fact that they're paired with professional singers also obstructs their own performances; it's harder to tell what they can actually do on their own, because part of the 90 secs. they're on is taken up by the pro singing with them. To me, that's not really fair. It was also interesting to note that the only things positive Marie Osmond could find to say when comparing LL's and Carly's performances were all about the pros, how she liked Clint Black's harmonica playing, and how she thought the horn section was hot. Nothing really positive about LL or Carly. And although Wayne Brady's married to a local (Hawai'i) girl, I must say he sometimes puts his foot in his mouth, like asking Cheech if he had anything to say to Foster (who had just told him he wasn't going to make it to the end). >And her acting is exceptional (one reason why we're here, isn't it?) - --Her acting could be very good on XWP; it wasn't always very good on things not XWP. And Celeb Duets is NOT XWP. My concern is that she's using her acting skills to make up for her lack of singing skills, and hoping that will "sell" the song, rather than honing her singing skills to be where they should be. And that's different from being a singer who acts. Only the first week did they repeat the prior show. In some ways, it can be a more exciting show because they aren't competing when they perform and can cut loose - as Lucy did. That performance just shows that she found her footing. I do hope that it stays with her through the rest of her time on the show because it is clear she can be very good. Singing takes some of the same tools as acting - mainly intelligence, finding the heart of the song, showing that heart and practice, practice, practice. bd - -----Original Message----- From: owner-chakram-refugees@smoe.org [mailto:owner-chakram-refugees@smoe.org]On Behalf Of HJJH Sent: Sunday, September 10, 2006 8:42 PM To: chakram-refugees@smoe.org Subject: RE: [chakram-refugees] Lucy and Friday Night Show >I have been watching the Friday night show and how great Lucy was as >compared to Thursday night in which was good but she didn't seem herself.
