It stars David Duchovny as a long-suffering TV writer and producer (think Joss Whedon, but older and schlumpier) trying to get his sitcom pilot picked up by the "Panda" network, and Sigourney Weaver as the network head. It's a hilarious, biting look at how Hollywood really works, and Sigourney Weaver is brilliant as the bitch-from-hell exec. I mention this here because Weaver's first line in the film is "What about Lucy Lawless?" She's discussing with her underling the casting of the pilot, and she goes on at length about how she thinks Lucy Lawless would be perfect for the part, "because everybody knows Xena can do comedy" and "I just don't understand why we weren't able to get her in here". (Of course the real reason I was laughing at this is b/c I know Lucy can do comedy, so the line wasn't as ironic as it was meant to come across. Heh.) Later on in the movie after the pilot is in production, Weaver's character sighs and says "Lucy Lawless still isn't available, huh?" I don't think this film has distribution yet, but it really deserves it and hopefully will get a wider release soon. In the meantime, you can check out info at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473709/. - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. This is so cool because it's not about Xena it's about Lucy. And it's not real often that non A list actors get mentions in movies. Unless it's meant as a big joke, which I'm sure hoping it wasn't. Go Luce! KT busy reading the Xena comic book--life is good! ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. We planned to go to Brokeback Mountain but unbeknowst to us, Brokeback had just saddled up and ridden away from the theater the night before. A Xena friend had recommended this movie to me and just about everything else playing was slob boy comedies, so we chose this one. I was surprised by how appropriate it is in today's political climate and by how good it was at getting the message across without being overly preachy. And I agree with Xena Torres--it's an excellent, surprising, dismaying and totally relevant film for our times. It's as frightening as the book "The Handmaid's Tale" in showing how a free society such as ours could end up like the societies in this film and that book. All it takes for evil to succeed when it comes calling intending to reshape a society in its own image, is for good people to do nothing. This film shows one person standing up to the machine and inspiring others to attempt to do the same. As Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." AND it has a flawed hero who wears black while fighting for the Greater Good and whose methods are not always totally benign or without damage to others. What else do Xena fans need? Thumbs up along side Xena Torres' KT ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
