Subject: [chakram-refugees] OT - Battle of Thermopylae movie The other night I watched a movie called 'The 300 Spartans" on AMC. It was filmed in 1962. Once I saw the movie details I had to watch it. There were only a couple of American actors and the rest appeared [by watching the cast credits] to be Greek. At the end, there was a very generous 'Producers wish to thank... the Greek government, Greek military,etc.." The main theme seemed to be the Greek fight for freedom and fighting together in order to be able to maintain their city-states. I admit I had not been at all familiar at all with the Battle of Thermopylae until watching One Against An Army. To me it was interesting that where XWP used cgi effects to replicate a dozen warriors into a hundred, this movie looked like it may have had a couple of thousand 'extras' to depict the different armies. Being a Texan, I could not help but relate this battle to 'The Alamo' defenders in Texas history -- also fighting for freedom against a larger foe. I think by today's movie standards it may be considered long and slow moving but, hey, that's the way I remember most those early 60s movies!! Mark Here's a link for some historical info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae And the link about the movie: http://www.hollywoodteenmovies.com/The300Spartans.html ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
