Dark Kingdom was based on a novel, from what i've heard, but i don't know the author yet. the script for this movie was written by Diane Duane and Peter Morwood. Diane Duane is one of my favorite short-novel writers for Star Trek, her most famous one of which is "My Enemy, My Ally." if you want to see a story about a women fighter who is respected by men (albight in the future as a Romulan commander) this one is for you. Dark Kingdom seems by be based on the Ring Trilogy myths from Norse mythology, often called the Ring of the Nebuling (spelling?). in this particular case, it tells the story of a blacksmith who defeats a dragon (ordinary person becomes hero) and then becomes invincible by dousing himsself in the dragons blood, which makes him immune to harm (except for one small place on his back he missed). he falls in love with the Queen of Iceland Brunhilde (ring a bell?) played by Katrina Logan, who i understand was in Teminator -3 (Shwartznegger lauded her for her work with him in that film). Here she was a fierce opponent who would not let men take her (or wed her) unless they could defeat her in battle. despite the fact that the hitch to this was that she was invincible because of a pagan belt she wore, the actress herself was powerful. watching her carry the energy in her body and her face, and do battle with double-bladed ax, sword and spear, and watching the power she had in her demeanor and her sword play, it was refreshing to see one more actress who really *believes* in her power and showed it on the screen. she dies at the end (suicide) after someone plots and plans and succeeds in killing her love, the dragon slayer, Siegried, by stealth. she kills the killer, and then unfortunately kills herself...here's one cheer for counseling work so we know to believe that our lives matter. We don't know who the authors were. It was a pretty good miniseries. This has been a good year for the Dark Ages. Tristan and Isolde was in theaters, Dark Kingdom on TV, and Beowulf and Grendel is coming. Kristanna Loken did well. Her suicide was quite extraordinary. She rammed a fullsized sword into her stomach with both hands. Boeotian ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
