Young" Subject: [chakram-refugees] The NZ Connection--Nathaniel Lees Here in Honolulu, the play "The Songmaker's Chair" by Albert Wendt from NZ is currently being staged. It's about the migration of a Maori family to different locations in NZ. I'm on the mailing list for the local community theater that's producing the play, and I was surprised to see this note from the playwright about the background of the play: - --------- _The Songmaker's Chair_ is my first full-length play, and is a fulfillment of a promise to Nathaniel Lees in the 1970s that I would write a play for Samoan actors. It has taken a very long time to fulfill that promise. And for me it's wonderful that Nathaniel directed and acted in the first production of the play! ... - ---------- I'm not sure if that means that Nathaniel Less is Samoan (I would've guessed he was Maori or some other Polynesian mix), but if he is that's intriguing, because he doesn't look Samoan to me (they are usually more heavy-set). He also doesn't look old enough that his acting credits would date back to the '70s.....;) Also, of course, the XWP connection continues to rear its head in various surprising ways, even here in Hawai'i.....;) Just FYI, - --Jackie ****************************************************** * Proud to have the same birthday as Lucy Lawless! * * * * "I think New Zealand geographically comes from * * ...
