A friend sent me a copy of a page from their journal, the SFRA Review (#274, Oct-Dec, 2005, p. 15), which includes a note asking for contributions to Women in Science Fiction and Fantasy: An Encyclopedia, to be published by Greenwood Press January 2007. "The focus will be primarily but not exclusively on work in English from the 19th century to the present, covering fiction, nonfiction, film, television, art, comics, graphic novels, music and poetry. ... This project is interdisciplinary with a woman's studies focus, so the editor is especially interested in soliciting writers in the following fields: communications and media studies, cultural studies, ethnic studies, film and television studies, gender studies, multicultural studies, sociology and women's studies." deadline for entries: Sept. 1, 2006 contact: Robin Anne Reid, _Robin_Reid@tamu-commerce.edu_ (mailto:Robin_Reid@tamu-commerce.edu) or _Rrede13@yahoo.com_ (mailto:Rrede13@yahoo.com) (The first address may be _Robin_Reid@tamucommerce.edu_ (mailto:Robin_Reid@tamucommerce.edu) since the colon came at a line break.) First, since this is an encyclopedia, if it comes out and does not have a Xena entry, it will mean that Xena is well and truly dead, has dropped off the screen of academic interest and is well on the way to being forgotten by the mind of man. Second, no one can contribute to this project except academics who are versed on the fields mentioned in the request for contributors. Fan contributions will not be welcome. Where is Atara Stein when we need her? However, someone please pass this along to other Xena lists (I am only on this list). Maybe someone somewhere will feel able to contribute. Finally, do not bombard Reid with fannish appeals for her to include Xena in her book. This would only annoy her.
