On September 22, Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi brought us the dark and completely creepy, Shawn Cassidy series "American Gothic." A show about the devil in man's form who is the sherrif of the small town of Trinity, the show is filled with all manner of paranormal things from the son of Sherrif Lucas Buck, Caleb, who would carry his spirit if Lucas were to die, to Caleb's dead sister who reclaimed her sanity at her death and is now taking care of her brother (that's right, she's a ghost). Classic Raimi/Tapert actor duo, Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi each appear in a episode. And, one can't miss the fact the series has a most haunting score by none other than Joseph LoDuca. Sadly, this most excellent series (truly expected from our horror team of Tapert/Raimi, but far more along the lines of the Ghost House films than the campy Evil Dead flicks, American Gothic was lost on viewers and disappeared from air waves during it's first year with four unaired episodes (we actually had those last four in Canada - not sure about the US). Well, Gothic fans, the series HAS hit DVD! YAHOO!!!! The complete series is now available on DVD in a three double sided disc set, that includes all episodes, including the unaired four, as well as deleted and extended scenes! It's out now. I just picked up my set today. Time to watch. "Someone's at the door." BATTLE ON XENA!
